I have Fubon bank because the school I work for is partnered with it. (I really hate this practice. Why do you have to use your employers specific bank? I just don’t get it)
Anyway, when I started there were no fees for ATMs anywhere in Taiwan.
Last month, all of a sudden, I started getting charged 10nyd or 5 Ntd for using the ATM. I know it’s not very much, but why am I being charged all of a sudden? Is this normal? Do others get these charges?
I want to call them but it’s difficult to connect to an English speaking representative. I’m planning on going in on a day off I’m getting for working on a Saturday, but wanted to know the experience of others first.
I know it’s not much but I need to save every Ntd now since I’m planning on quitting my job next year to do my PhD full time. I’ll change to a part time job but I gotta be prepared
I was told by various banks that if your employer has a relationship and contract with the bank, which usually is large companies, part of the agreement is that they waive so many other ATM fees each month.
I’m betting this contract has run out and now the bank is charging the fees.
They may still be connected with your company and likely are, just the contract terms got renegotiated and it probably doesn’t include waived fees. But yea I’d check with the bank.
Maybe Fubon had some free ATM withdrawals at other bank ATM’s and got rid of it.
Usually ATM from the bank are free to withdraw cash. Transfers usually have a 10NTD fee at most banks unless there is a promotion for new customer accounts.
To avoid fees I did withdraw cash and walk to other bank I use and deposit through ATM. Luckily my banks all support Easy Wallet. I linked the bank account to the Easy Wallet and can charge up from one bank and immediately withdraw to the other without any fees and it is instant. Saves me a walk around every month.
