BBC news website makes me sick

i’ve had it bookmarked for as long as i can remember but i now need to move-on to something decent.

lately there’s been a whole bunch of animal stories

news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/engl … 098219.stm

a fucking cat is recruited and joining the force

another “newsworthy” story was how a cat has a weird routine of expecting it’s master to pick it up in town…

another one tells us how a boat of tourist baffled to see a squirrel in the middle of a lake…

i can’t take it anymore!!

the last straw was this gem=
news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/7097736.stm
Rapper Jay-Z dissing the dollar

Wads of dollar bills are usually as much a part of rap videos as fast cars, diamond-encrusted jewellery and scantily-clad models.

But in an apparent nod to the low value of the dollar, rapper Jay-Z’s new video Blue Magic features another currency.

He is seen cruising the streets of New York in Bentleys and Rolls Royces (now owned by Germany’s Volkswagen and BMW) with a briefcase of 500 euro notes.

There have been no suggestions that Jay-Z’s fellow rapper 50 Cent could be considering a move into a different currency.
is this humour???

if i want heart warming pet stories i go watch animal planet,
if i want poor humour i just read fred smith’s posts

long story short,i need suggestions please.

nothing pro american, nothing anti american…just good objective news website please

Strange, you must’ve caught the back end of the silly season. There are many examples of groundbreaking investigative journalism on the BBC site, such as this piece detailing irregular practices at Japan’s Agriculture Ministry.

You’re right though the tendency of late has been towards humour. I mean, just look at this…

and another one…do journos get paid to do that???
The kittens seemed to think Summer the rabbit was their mother and began to climb all over her and try to feed from her.

Efforts will be made to find the four males and two females permanent homes in the coming weeks.
oh wow,i’m sure the kids in darfur will sleep a whole lot better following this groundbreaking development…

I don’t care that much about what they report, but I do find it shocking how bad their proofreading is. I find a mistake in almost every article I read.

Most of those items are local news, mainly stuff that’s not important for national news.

Hasn’t the BBC been reporting on the Darfur conflict? Must the BBC report only on serious issues like Darfur? Why can’t comedy and tragedy co-exist?

actually all those headlines appear on the front page…to me front page means WORTHY news.

Lighten up. Maybe reading some of those feel good stories would do you good.

I occasionally write to the BBC to protest about the garbage they pass off as news. Sometimes they actually change articles, and write back to let me know that they have done so.

Recent gems related to this part of the world:

An interview with someone who was in Xi’an helping to pack the terracotta warriors exhibition for its journey to London, except that I had just visited the same exhibition in Taipei.

Reports of Beijing’s plan to expand the motorway network to include a link to Taipei.

China’s new nuclear submarine has a range of 5000 nautical miles.

Reports that Taiwan (not the ROC) used to be a member of the UN.

Typhoon whatsisname has lashed Taiwan and is now heading to China, reported while it was still East of TW. Wankers.

Uneducated, uninformed staffers pumping out inaccurate and irrelevant ‘news’ stories to tight deadlines with no quality control. If an idiot like me can spot factual inaccuracies in articles about stories he knows just a little about, then what other bollocks is lurking below the horizon that I’m not qualified to spot?

As a trustworthy source, the BBC now ranks on a par with my dog.

Da blind frog: complain to the editors. They do have the power to change things, and it’s their fault that the site looks like a London tabloid nowadays. If enough complain, then it’ll go back to the stuffy old informative site it used to be.

But the best thing about the internet, is that you can click on whatever you want to, and ignore the rest.

will do,thanks!

part of my rant included a plea for help in finding a good news source, can you help??

www.drudgereport.com has a huge listing of links to news sources from all over the world

and somewhere on Forumosa.com there is a “sticky” with a bog list of new sources on the net.

Were the kittens in Darfur ? Is that a place in England ?

Is it a welsh sheep dog. I heard they are very smart.

I read a lot of International Herald Tribune, which sources good articles from New York Times and the London Times amongst other papers, and the Christian Science Monitor. both easy to find online.

scurrilous scuttlebutt (unfounded rumour and mud) can be found on the Drudge report and the Onion. (make sure you don’t end up at any of the copy sites of those two…)

defence news with less editing is at Janes, at Global Security, and at Swiftboat veterans for truth. (kidding).

another thought is that you may be reading the bbc.news site for the UK, not the BBC World site. switch to the World site for more international and general news, and less filler.

Uro -
As ‘The Drudge Report’ does not make the news stories, but only posts articles from other sources in a compendium site method, and some of those sources are one and the same as those you list as your preferred sources - NY Times, IHT and London times - I thank you for the morning humor.

Also, as I indicated, the Drudge site has a very useful list of links to worldwide media sources.

Thanks again for the chuckle……perhaps thats your “Onion” moment.

Agreed. the drudge report still casts a very wide net, though, and does include a lot of unfounded stuff… not as bad as the Onion, and Matt Drudge has definitely come a lot closer from the edge than he used to be. but then its still a great site for fast news and lots of small stories that get overlooked in other sites.
