BBQ & garbage...kind of ranting

In the local newspaper and yahoo Taiwan for the last few days it was advertised that the park by the river under the Ming Chuan Bridge near the National Airport will be open this year for allowing people to gather and BBQ all they want, however a strong warning was issued that if people don’t clean their garbage it won’t open again for this or anyother kind of festivities.
I went there last night taking a walk with my SO and the little boy, it was packed with people on sidewalk, bikeways and everywhere execpt on the grass of course.
I went back this morning and my god!!! it looked like %#%@@ garbage everywhere, it was discusting.
Why oh why, can’t people pickup their garbage?

Because they’re filthy scum-sucking bastards with absolutely no sense of civic duty, aesthetics or consideration for other people. Bitan’s the same this morning. Absolute mouthbreathing fucking scum. These people are simply dirty fucking pigs. It’s really as simple as that. A blight on humanity. If these people had been aborted, they’d still have disgraced the planet for too long.

When walking last night I observed the kind of people that was there and it really looked like all kinds of people from different life strata, young, old, mid age, some with friends, some families, some rich some poor and still every part of the park looked filthy. People were warned to keep the place clean and yet…
Unbelievable!!!

Yes, but THEIR cars were nice and clean inside and they had no nasty greasy garbage to deal with when they got home – the end of a perfect day. Scum. Lower life-forms.

The elementary school across the street from my house had a sign posted at all the entrances saying that BBQ and fireworks aren’t allowed.

Went there this morning and it is covered in BBQ and fireworks garbage. Filthy.

Filthy diseased pigs. Suppurating pus-filled bags of shite. People who don’t deserve anything but deepest contempt. I hope they die of pollution-caused cancer.

That is probably one of the leading causes of death in this place. (after road related incidents)

Regardless, who issued the warning? The council?

look at how much it will cost to clean up the place!!! If they had spent half that money on local fine issuer’s they could have made enough money to afford to clean the place up.

The only way to ever get a local to do something (in 99.99999% of cases) is to correlate that task with financial reward / penalty.

The failure mostly isn’t the local populace. You see anyone could have predicted the result. The failure is in the local council to regulate it.

Can we get some pictures of the mess posted on the forums?

I notice that none of the parks that I travel through on my rides have any garbage facilities. Could this be a small part of the problem? I always end up with garbage in my backpack when I go to rest and relaxation outdoors places, government or otherwise. No other place to put it. It’s usually a lot of someone elses trash as well.

I agree. Give people 50 000$ fines and enforce them and you will see some results. Good luck with that, though. Nobody would support a polititian that expected people to have any real sense of civic responsibility.

You people just don’t understand Taiwanese culture: our responsibility ends at our front door, anything we do outside does not count.

When will all you whiney liberal white trash guests in our country get it? I am a Taiwanese so I can do what I want when I want, and any law only counts if it benefits me personally; otherwise it does not count.
:unamused:

This is no reason to leave it behind, just be prepared … take some garbage bags with you and deal with it in a proper, civilized way … they should stop thinking that some else will pick it up.

They should do what you do, take it home.

People here have absolutely no respect for what so ever, they only care about material things, money and face … they are spiritual indeed, going to the temple to pray for more money and a new car.

Just yesterday on my way up in the mountains at a traffic light, this huge lexus or whatever turns down his window and just thorws out the wrapping of a cigaret pack … morons with money to burn.

Law enforcement is just to lax, they should enforce what the goverment preaches … do you think that one person is find since they implemented fining of trashers and binlang spitting?

A friend of mine was walking in Banchaio with his wife one day, when he opened a pack of smokes. The wind took the cellophane part out of his fingers before he had a chance to shove it in his pocket. He was accosted by some sort of civic responsibility garbage nag who attempted to make him pay a fine and completely nagged him out and threatened to call the cops. She was wearing some sort of uniform as well, as my friend tells it. Needless to say, he walked away. Why should he be forced to be responsible for his trash if nobody else is?

Anybody else seen these garbage police?

I guess the government can put more people to work picking up the trash?

There is NO EXCUSE for not cleaning up your own garbage when you leave somewhere outdoors.

I was with a friend having a few beers on Friday night at the river-park by/under the Min-Chuan Bridge as well. We expected it would be a disaster the next day. I didn’t go see. I’ve heard enough here. It’s really fucking sad. Truly pisses me off.

When will Taiwan learn? It’s a small island a lot of you are living on!!! Please learn!

Translation:" It will only be open for festivities, one time and one time only".

There isn’t any garbage facilities in any parks, or other areas because people will throw their household garbage there, instead of buying the blue bags and taking it to the garbage truck.

The Li Li Xi upstream from Laiyi. It’s a popular place to drive your car out onto the river bed and have a picnic. This is a big pile of bottles, cardboard boxes, plastic bags, and scraps of food waste all abandoned in the riverbed. What you can’t see is how the plastic plates are all melted together by a half-hearted attempt to burn all of it, before abandoning it for everyone else’s later enjoyment.

Time for the city and county governments to make some hard-hitting Public Service Announcements on TV that hit home, instead of cute little hints to not litter with cartoon characters and happy music.

This is our land. This is your garbage. Any questions?

Taiwan needs its’ own Iron Eyes Cody: the crying Indian from the Keep America beautiful ad.

That’s true. There were rubbish bins all over Taipei until the blue rubbish bag system was introduced and the government realised just how cheap and dirty a lot of people are…

It’s ok if the place is dirty, as long as everyone’s RECYCLING, hey?

This statement sounds familiar. Wasn’t it the response from China at the UN when Taiwan petitoned for satus last year? Anyways, can we have this translated on the back of a tshirt w/a small Taiwanese flag?
