Hello!
Starting at the end of this month and for one week or more, Animals Taiwan in conjunction with PawUK will be conducting Taiwan’s largest cat CNR project to date. We aim to catch, neuter, treat if necessary, vaccinate and release more than 100 cats in 7 days.
We need your help. We are looking to trap about 15 cats per day in various locations around Tienmu. We have all the necessary equipment; now we just need you!
Here’s what we need:
- trappers, to lay and bait the traps and call the drivers to take the cats to the vet or holding centre
- drivers, to ferry the cats to and from the vet or holding centre
- carers, to help keep the cats clean and fed for the 12 hours or so post-operation
- co-ordinators, to help make sure everything is running smoothly
We need at least one driver and two trapping teams of two per day, as well as two carers and one co-ordinator. You can choose which days you would like to help, and what times, though sunsete and sunrise are better, and many of us will be catching cats in the very early morning.
This promises to be a most rewarding and fun project, and it will have an incredible impact on the number of animals suffering on Taiwan’s streets. If you would like to be part of this great event and have some great memories and interesting stories to tell, please contact me today, via email, at sean [at] animalstaiwan [dot] org
Thank you!

Sean, can you answer these questions:
Your focus is on the Tianmu area. Are cats from outside that area not welcome? How about cats that we already caught and are now fostering? And what’s the lower age limit (8 weeks as seems to be the standard in Britain?) for the de-sexing?
Thanks!
I’m in, let me know what I can do. There’s a few stray cats in my area (not Tianmu), the ones around now are mostly less than 8 weeks though…

Let Sean know on what day(s) you can help out and whether you can be a trapper, a driver (your own vehicle), a carer, or a coordinator. I expect he’ll then get back to you with details as to where to go, what time, who you’ll meet there, etc.
Yes, we can do cats from other areas if time permits, but the priority will be cats in our target area, as it’s important we neuter as many as possible in one colony, or extended colony.
Fluffy, good to have you on board - drop me an email.
Matthew, do I have your email?
We start catching the cats tomorrow afternoon (Thursday 31st June) and will focus on one colony of 17 near ChungShan N. Rd, Sec. 7. We start at 5 pm and will keep going until we have them all; you can stay as long as you like to help, but I’ll be there until the last cat is in.
Tomorrow, we are working with a colony of 15 just off Sec. 6, but we have already CNRed nine of them, so we are aiming to catch just six. As we have to be more selective, this may take a little time though. We start caging the cats at 6 o’clock.
On Saturday, we will target a large colony of maybe up to 20 cats, just south of Tienmu East Road and east of Chung Shan. Start about 4 pm.
If you would like to be part of this exciting and extremely worthwhile project, please email me today at sean [at] animalstaiwan [dot] org or call me on 0920 620 109 or 02 2833 8820.
Thank you!
After two nights of non-stop CNRing, we have so far caught about 30 cats.
We have shifted focus from the Tienmu area as another organization is active there, but they are using our vet for the desexing.
If you would like to help us catch more cats, get in touch ASAP. It’s very rewarding work, and although a little frustrating at times, the magical moments are when you do catch a cat (or two), or when we return the cat the next day desexed and vaccinated.
We are doing two shifts right now: 6 pm (ish) to 10 pm (ish) and 2 am (ish) to 6 am (ish). The early morning shift is a bugger, for sure, but that’s when we’re catching most felines.
Hope to see some of you there.
Sean
How many cats did you end up CNRing with the help of the people who arrived from abroad (from HK and UK)?
If I wanted to try and CNR a large group of cats around our house, would it be possible to acquire traps, could I contact the vets who particpated in this program, and roughly how much would it cost?
I’m interested in doing it sometime in the future.
