Best Airline from Taipei to London

Hi:

I know there are some british guys here :sunglasses: , so taking in consideration service quality, price, pls advise which airline is the best for traveling to London

Any direct flight available?

I also wonder if the war with Iraq starts during my flight period, will there be any risk, as I was trying to figure out the distance between the flight route and Iraq, it seems pretty close

Thanks,

Singapore/Malaysia & Thai airlines offer flights to London nonStop from repective capitals. All priced around 30K, Sometimes they throw in a hotel for a stopover if the connecting flight is longer than 8hrs. Waiting time varies from a quick sprint to 12 hours+
Hope this helps.

you can’t fly over china so you have to stop somewhere, usually Hong Kong or Bangkok,

for a slightly faster trip, you can go via Hong Kong, either BA, or Cathay if you can fit in their seats. Taken Singapore a couple of times, quite nice multichannel tv and games which is invisible if the person infront put his seat back. Took Malaysia once, never again, service on the plane was ok, but the service on the ground was awful. Cocked up the hotel in KL, Cock up about info about visas, weren’t told that the plane had another stop. The air in the airport (this was the old KL airport though) made me feel sick. That’s my experience, obviously they do keep other customers happy.

if you want to go to other places in the UK, KLM is the way to go, change at Amsterdam for the Airport of your choice

I don’t think any flights go anywhere near Iraq, it’s usually over India and Moscow, even if they did, I’m sure they would keep well away in case of trouble

:?: What do you mean by that? I mean there are direct flights from Taiwan to Europe. Not sure about London, but e.g. our (in)famous China Airlines flies Taipei to Frankfurt non-stop.

I came from Germany via London using BA. Cheaper than LH (much cheaper) but the service … well, what to expect in cattle class on a European airliner!? BA requires stop-over in Hong Kong and the connecting flights are now done by Cathay as BA gave up that last part. Transfer time was not that long, 2 hours at most if I remember correctly.

weren’t told that the plane had another stop.

Now that should be clear from the (insert the i-word here). Never been on a plane and didn’t know it’s going to “stop” somewhere I wasn’t aware of. Are you sure you weren’t taking a bus … ?

Airports aren’t run by airlines, so don’t blame MAS for that. In any case it’s not only the air inside the airport but in general which is pretty “bad” there due to the high humidity and temperatures (mixed with the foul smell).
Perhaps 7 years down there made me imune against that smell but the new airport seems to have a good air-con system …

Really ? I didn’t know that, but I wouldn’t even look at China Airlines when planning a trip

We were led to believe that it was non-stop from KL to Taipei, didn’t find out until we got there that is wasn’t. That was probably the travel agent’s fault for giving us the wrong flight

Nothing to do with MAS, I know. But it made the trip even more unpleasant, It was due to all the people smoking, nowhere to escape it for the 5 hour wait :frowning:

I only took MAS the once, maybe everyone was having a really bad day that day

I can believe that! It seems that ‘direct flight’ has a different meaning here, though I’ve yet to discover what. It probably means they get there, as opposed to China Airlines.

My recent favourite China Airlines quote on the subject of paying for the salvage costs of the last CA accident over Penghu: “But we don’t have to pay when we crash in other countries.”

I normally fly EVA, one stop in Bangkok. Make sure you go in Economy Deluxe (separate cabin, bigger seats) - about GBP100 extra. Flew over this time in their economy class and it was fine too.

Went to Tokyo during CNY and CI was the only one offering flights / seats on those days. And survived it.

I think it’s the only airline having direct flights from here to Europe. Please add others if you know.

Hmm…I wonder how much I’d have to pay to fly to Frankfort and then change planes to get to London.

I get worried when I see the lack of flights on online travel agencies for flights to London (Gatwick) from Taipei during the summer. Is it just impossible to fly from Taipei to London in the summer without having to change carriers?

You don’t have to change carriers. I’ve flown TPE-LHR loads of times and never had to change carriers.

I didn’t know that any flights at all go from Asia to Gatwick – I though they all went to Heathrow. My worst flight? BA Asia, quick enough, which is just as well as I had to endure the entire flight scrunched up into a tiny ball and the waiters were sour-pussed battleaxes.

Second worst? Malaysia Airlines, cheap but interminable. Never again.

Best? KLM. Fast and convenient. And Schipol has a casino.

Can you name that carrier?

Rascal, it’s EVA Air, not sure if BAA still serves Taipei, both fly into LHR, not LGW. FYI, I’ve checked the airfare to UK, the cheapest is usually Malaysia or Royal Brunei, with change of plane at KUL or BWN, I’ve seen fares to FRA and LHR for as low as 20300 NT
