What do you think the best album of the year was?
I think Elephant by the White Stripes was pretty good.
any thoughts or comments…
I think Elephant is the only album I have from 2003. So for me, it IS album of the year. Oh, and I think it’s good too.
I don’t have any 2003 music yet, but soon I will get my hands on:
Elephant (I have their first 3 cds here but missed this one), Hail to the Thief (Radiohead), Dear Catastrophe Waitress (Belle & Sebastian), Welcome Interstate Managers (Fountains of Wayne), Welcome to the Monkey House (Dandy Warhols), Identity Crisis (Shelby Lynne), Soul Journey (Gillian Welch), World Without Tears (Lucinda Williams), Stumble into Grace (Emmylou Harris).
So I figure the best of 2003 might well be here somewhere, although the American females are likely an acquired taste.
And this only represents the new work of artists I know about. No new artists on this list, no real new listening either.

Agree on the above plus…
Gradaddy “Sumday”
Neil Young and Crazy Horse “Greendale”
Willie Nelson and Ray Price “Run that by me one more time”
JayHawks “Rainy Day Music”
Warren Zevon “The Wind”
Johnny Cash “Unearthed”
Kathleen Edwards “Failer”
The Sleepy Jackson “Lovers” (great studio band but man they stink live)
PS did you see the pix of that guy from the Von BLondies face after Jack White ripped through him! Gave him a damn good beating! And, after listening to a few of the their songs, I feel like swinging a few!

That’s one I gotta get. Neil Young is an American national treasure*.

Ditto these three. And Zevon and Cash croaked.
*–Edit: Neil Young is an American treasure.

:saywhat:
Hence the edit. (Canadians are Americans, too, or so I’ve heard.)
Ok, so I’m a few years behind, but I just discovered this and I’m loving it.
Sure, I know it’s just pure bubblegum-formula-pop, but it’s so darn catchy.
Wow other than Radiohead, same as I was buying and seeing live when possible in 2003.
2022 sucks.
I love Warren Zevon, one of the best American story-tellers in music.
There’s still a lot of great new music out there, it’s just not popular.
