Cannot talk about B-sides without mentioning the kings of the b-side (and covers for it)

And…then, a b-side universally hated, but I liked it. Apparently it was just a jam to fill up the other side of the disc.

I don’t think I would ever imagine seeking DK on here. I remember buying Holiday in Cambodia…then getting grounded by my step-dad for owning it. I guess he didn’t like the cover as he never listened to it…voluntarily, anyway.

Rain (b-side to Paperback Writer)

Ringo’s best drumming. Even in interviews he finds it hard to explain how he did it.
Writen about the rain and poor weather on their arrival in Sydney, Australia.

+1. The song changed rock music for ever, just ask Noel Gallagher.
If anyone wants to buy the original vinyl I have it.

Van the Man’s B-side of his ‘Brown Eyed Girl’. Not bad.

B-sides are important. Of note, the B-side to “Thirteen Women (and Only One Man in Town)” by Bill Haley + His Comets was “Rock Around the Clock.”

How Soon is Now? by The Smiths:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hnpILIIo9ek

Originally a B-side to William, It Was Really Nothing, then included on a compilation record, then included on the album, Meat Is Murder. It had already been released three times before somebody realised they had a masterpiece on their hands and finally made it the single it always should have been. Should have been the single to put The Smiths on the map, but by the time it was finally released, all the fans already had it in one form or another, so it didn’t even break the top-20.

Now that I think about it, The Smiths probably had some of the strongest B-sides of any band I can think of, a legacy that continued well into Morrissey’s solo career…
