Question for pet owners and people who get upset by pet barking:
I am looking for a new place and I am trying to find a compromise that will allow my pets to be confortable, safe and sound, while minimizing the chances to bother others with their meowing, barking, chasing and crashing, etc.
Currently I think a dinglo or top floor should be OK -as long as I can close it up so no cat jumps into infinity and beyond- plus dogs would not have people marching in and walking by, getting all excited and going bark bark bark.
Some people have reccomended a first floor. This has the advantage of no pitty patter and scatch sound -that soooo bothers the neighbors- bit more space for dogs to be outside and not as hot/cold in extreme weather as a dinglo. But then the barking would multiply, I think.
I also think those high rise places are not suitable, even though an elevator is convenient, the window situation might not be as convenient for cats to watch the days go by.
I also went looking for a home in the mountains but really, if it takes one hour to get there, it is one hour less I spend with them. Plus limited availability of vets.

I was going to recommend the high rises in Tianmu since the walls are basically Western style. Sound is muffled even just from room to room. But oh well lol Its an hour by public transport, but I’m sure on a scooter you could do it 20-30 minutes tops to Main Station.
Is it really that much a problem that they might jump out of the window? o.O I thought cats were pretty smart about jumping and their own ability…?
How fat are your cats that their paws on floors bother the people downstairs??? Or inverse, how super-sonic are your neighbors’ ears that they can hear a CAT upstairs???
Eh, those soundproof walls are a new “invention” here, which means only new high rises that cost 40K a month -and take no pets, no one wants pets in their new places- may have them. Tianmu is not an hour away dear, it is less than half an hour, even by bus. You can take the MRT to Zhishan or Shipai and transfer to local buses or do straight up 247/220 bus from Taipei Main Station. I’ve been looking in Tianmu and it is convenient for pets because it has many parks and the rents are not outrageous -compared to othe rplaces in Taipei, as long as you avoid the “fancy” places.
As to the supersonic ears, well, no comments. I know my cats occassionally dump heavy stuff -like books or vases or shoes- when they play -and they are heavy, like 5 Kilos- but c’me on!
Walls are not much a problem. Barking sounds escape through windows or balconies.

I’m bumping this cause I just went up there and again, it took me about an hour between leaving the house, walking to and getting on the MRT, catching and riding bus at Shipai, and walking to destination. Gahhhhh, I don’t know what I’m doing wrong (and its not walking slowly! Lol, I even walk up the escalator on the left hand side). Maybe its my timing of mid-afternoon =/

So did you find a solution?
never lived in a condo in Taiwan but as a dog owner (real dogs not Gucci dogs lol) the concrete standard Taiwanese house echos like a mother! really loud! really bad. We use the roof for a long time, the neighbors still bitch but its not as bad as ll the “wild”/stray dog barking and the little poodle like dogs. if its a house, i would say you have the right to do as you wish. be nice, but be firm. we eventually caved to our neighbors and moved the dogs and within one week one of them got killed. When it gets down to the nitty gritty, basically its fuck the neighbors. also keep in mind some Taiwanese are more than happy murdering animals, so you want to be a little careful if you have one of those psycho sorts. :loco:
