Hi everyone,
My husband and are are moving to Taipei for a year and he wishes to take some Mandarin classes. The goal is to be able to have a conversation with my parents one day. I am of Taiwanese decent. We don’t want a school that puts too much emphasize on reading and writing but mostly conversational. He is not looking for a degree either.
Thanks in advance for your help,
Annie
There’s quite a long discussion in this thread about schools that focus on speaking. This seems to be the most recent thread.
(I don’t think things have changed a lot since that time.) Among the schools in Taiwan, I’d choose the cheapest and/or most conveniently located, and go for a 1-on-1 class, and go in knowing exactly what you want out of class. Then don’t be shy about making the teacher follow your wishes, and be firm about not wanting to learn to read and write.
