Best solution to start a Sole Proprietorship in Taiwan?

Hi !

I have found some infos about business types in Taiwan, and I’m quite interested in Sole Proprietorships. Hope anyone here will be able to give me some infos about the following points:

– Is it true that the owner of a Sole Proprietorship company can live abroad (I mean outside of Taiwan)? Feel like I would have to maybe go to HK, while waiting for the right Visa, and wouldn’t be a Taiwan resident at the very beginning.

– Is it possible, like in UK, USA or HK, to buy “off the shelf” or “ready-made” companies? Already read the messages about domiciliation, but I know nothing about the rest.

And, frankly, to your opinion, what would be the best solution:

  1. To be stubborn, only focus on Taiwan, even if it’s maybe more difficult?
  2. Start a business elsewhere, UK or HK, and then start a branch asap in Taiwan?

It’s true I’d like to go to Taiwan as soon as I can, but see no use in going there if I can’t stay or fail in what I want to do.

I also need other infos about Visa, I asked it there

hope any of you may help about this too

Sincerely,
Laurent

What is the type of business you are starting? Restaurant, bushiban, etc.

My understanding is that a sole proprietorship is a tax term describing how you are treated by the tax authorities, not a legal form of incorporation per se.

You can start a business without forming a corporation. The main reason to form a corporation is to protect yourself from liability

Well, as far as I know, another difference between Sole Proprietorship and Ltd company is the SP doesn’t require a minimum capital (or I had very, very bad infos), and I don’t have required capital for a Ltd, don’t have half million Taiwan Dollars.

As for your first question, no, I don’t plan to start a restaurant – I’m not even sure that a Sole Pr. is allowed to hire employees or not, so a restaurant …

I have two different projects that we can talk about if you want to know about them. One project if I can stay in Taiwan, one if I have to run it from abroad in the first weeks/months.
