Best way to fly from Taipei to Ithaca, NY?

Hello,

Does anyone know what’s the best way to fly from Taipei to Ithaca? Taking into consideration convenience, quality/comfort of airlines, flight time, price, all that.

Would taking Eva Air deluxe class to NYC then transfter to Ithaca the most comfortable and quickest? Altho I would have to switch from Newark to JFK i think, is that right?

Thanks.

I fly EVA deluxe to Newark, the airline puts me up in a hotel overnight (because by the time the flight arrives there are no flights going out to my destination) then I fly out about 8 in the morning the next day to Albany. Ithaca is probably not much different. I don’t know if there are flights there from Newark, as you say, but there might be. Miraculously, Ithaca is probably actually smaller than Albany (but we have an “international airport” with a flight each week to Canada, don’t forget!)

no flights to jfk or newark. laguardia is about a half-hour from jfk and an hour from newark by taxi depending on traffic, which is horrible more often than not. the ride could be longer if so. not much fun either way. there aren’t any good train connections there. there are flights to detroit, i’d definitely look into northwest.

i didn’t know ithica even had an airport. nice town. flyithaca.com/schedule.php

Got into Cornell? Congratulations. Great school and very beautiful.

Got to be going to Cornell. Why else go to ithaca?? Many Cornell students fly to new york and then take the bus to the PORT AUTHORITY from any of the 3 airports and then take a 5 hour bus ride to Ithaca from the same building. Iv done it. not bad. Best way overall pricewise and everything.

Maybe he got into Ithaca State U. :idunno:

Don’t laugh, that’s my sister-in-law’s alma mater. Of course, she was a local, sort of, hailing from Albany.

But, I admit, the OP says he’s from California, so Cornell seems a more likely destination.

Cornell sucks tho. I would pick Berkeley any day of the week. Cornell is small , has a super tiny college town and its frickin cold in the winter. IT would be a great place to spend ONE YEAR of college and then transfer to bERk, just for the experience. But Berk has a 1000 times more lively atmosphere.

LTH went to Cornell. That tells you all you need to know

p.s. I did not attend either. but have been to both campuses (berkeley often). Pretty college Cornell is and I am sure the education is great but WOW DEAD place compared to UC berk.

p.p.s Of course you have to go where you are ACCEPTED into

Depends what you’re into. Berkeley’s a great school. So is Cornell.

My brother attended Cornell’s hotel and restaurant school, which I understand is one of the best in the world in that field. It certainly helped propel my brother to terrific success, founding a very successful hotel business that has earned him millions.

A good friend of mine earned his PhD in physics at Cornell, which is also Richard Feinman’s alma mater and I understand has an excellent physics program.

I believe E.B. White, Nabokov, and many other great figures in history hail from Cornell. I’m sure it’s an outstanding education in many fields.

But you’re right about the cold, long winters. Cornell’s also infamous for how many depressed students commit suicide every winter by jumping off the bridges into the icy chasms below. Still, I’d gladly attend there if I were back at that stage in my life.

wow kudos to your bro. And yes Cornell and the one in Lausanne (sp?) are the best hotel schools i hear.

IM sure the education is first class in Cornell but its really dreary the weather and all. And yes at least one or two students a year jump off one of those bridges…very sad.

thanks folks. Not sure now Berkeley got into this thread, but I did happen to go there for undergrad and had a blast. I am going to Cornell for grad school. I figured only 2 years, can’t be that bad. I did look into the “depressed ppl killing themselves” thing and turns out its a myth. There’s a nice gorge that random non-cornellians like to jump off of. It’s like ppl jumping off of Golden Gate or Brooklyn bridges, nothing to do with the school. The suicide rate at Cornell is actually the same as the national average. MIT is the number one killer, with rates 10X the national average.

Anyway, let’s get back to topic. So far my choices are:

  1. Fly Northwest to Detroit. Problem is I have to transfer somewhere (HK? Tokyo? can’t remember) and the airline will most likely be crappy (like all US airlines).

  2. Fly China or Eva to NYC. Eva deluxe is simply awesome. China airlines economy is still better than US airlines. Problem is how to I get to Ithaca? That’s a pain.

The stay overnight then go to albany (in my case ithaca) way might work. Does eva provide free hotel room? Would the hotel be in newark? Are there flights from newark to Ithaca, if not, would it be a hassle to get from newark to JFK/Laguardia? I will also have massive luggages. Then there’s the problem of price. I will probably spend 10K NT more to have a more comfortable and smooth flight, but not more.

Let me know if you guys have any other ideas, thanks.

check out travelocity for flights from new york to ithaca. Theres actuallly flights to ithaca. Small prop planes but stil planes. Since you will hvae tons of luggage, probably not good to go by bus.

A lot of TAiwanese students take eVA or China air to new york and spend the nite at an airport hotel, then take the airport bus to the PORT AUTHORITY in NYC. And then take the plentiful Ithaca bus from there. Cheaper then flying to ithaca from NYC.

but there are flights you can take to ithaca from new york city. check out travelocity as i said

If you flew you might be able to get EVA to pay for a nites hotel and your bags could get transferred to the connecting flight. But that only works if you are arriving and leaving from the same airport. Which may not be the case here.

Plus you have to get ur luggage out anyway to go thru us customs. So at any rate, you probably have to get ur bags, go thru customs and probably get to another airport for the flight to ithaca.

If you have just two suitcases and have the time. you may just as wel do what the other students do? fly to nyc, spend a nite at airport hotel. take bus to port authority and then another bus to ithaca? the bus can easily carry ur two suitcases. They are greyhound type buses.

cool…i’m looking at the info your provided, and I’m shocked! 600+ USD from NYC to Ithaca?? that’s insane…i was expecting 1-200 USD. Is this right? Am I seeing this right?

If that’s the case I would HAVE to take a bus…what’s this Port Authority you speak of? THey don’t have buses from the airports in NYC directly to ithaca?

yup 600 plus bucks to fly from new york to ithaca and back. Thats bout 300 each way. Thats why nearly all the students ride the bus. The Port Authority is the main bus depot in New YOrk City. YOU cant miss it. All the buses from all the airports end up at the PORt Authority. And from there you can easily catch a bus to IThaca. I THink theres a bus every half hour or so from NYC To IThaca and every few mins from the airports to the PORt Authority. So the thing to do is take a plane to anyone of the 3 NEw YORk city airports and catch a bus to the port authority. What a lot of people do is book an airport hotel (80 bucks or so) and they have a bus that will pick you up at the terminal and drop you off again the next day when you can catch a bus to the port authority and then another bus from the same station to ithaca.

ITs very easy. NOthing to it really. Easier then it looks.

p.s. NO no buses from ithaca to the airports. YOU have to transfer buses at the PORt Authority

port authority? luggage? bus?

Airlines often change the pricing and availability for seats within the same plane or route. Now Travelocity goes that extra step to let you know when a specific price may have limited availability.

Note that seat and pricing availability is at time of search and prices are not guaranteed until purchase. The number of seats left at the stated price are the exact number of seats released by the airline to sell and do not reflect the total number of seats available for the entire flight.

I would suggest a flight on a commercial aeroplane. However, these other alternatives are worth a gander…

You could fly an enormous Obelisk…

You could hitch hike…

David Hasselhoff also runs private ocean crossings…

But personally I like getting strapped into a wheelchair and flung to my destination (see the look of enjoyment on my face prior to departure)…

If you fly NW it’s a stop in KIX (Osaka), then to Detroit, then Ithaca. It’s probably the easiest place to transfer. Alternatively, you can fly from TPE to LAX, SFO, SEA, YVR and change to Philadelphia and then to ITH.

Also, the flights to NY are not non-stop. You will stop and clear immigration in Anchorage, I believe.

If you’re traveling that far, I would not recommend changing airports in NY or taking a bus. You’ll be tired and gross.

So, I would try NW TPE (KIX) DTW ITH. It’s the fastest. Alternatively, I’d fly on UA TPE-SFO-PHL-ITH. That’s probably the cheapest.

thanks, sent you a PM.
