Better options than the iPhone?

Actually my phone ( Changhua) contract ends this Month. Have an Iphone 8 but screen cracked . love the OS but not great phones. Not sure if my brain will get round an Android. Maybe I will ask them for an older 6 or 7 . Newer models seems too fragile for my pockets.

What about local Taiwanese brands?

The HTC 10 and the U11 were great, but this year’s U12+ is not getting good reviews. May have to try Asus. Our Asus tablets have been good, but I have no experience with their phones.

Is there a general consensus on what’s the best cheap Android phone out at the moment? Prefer a small form factor, don’t really have a price limit but looking for highest CP value.

The new Asus pro lets you link your Asus phone to the mouse pad and stuff. I think if they continue to improve that technology and make it more practical and useful I might switch to an Asus phone. Asus computers are the best on the market imo outside of custom made ones.

Google released Pixel 3 the other day and Taiwan is one of the 13 countries where it will be released in November. It’d probably be a good alternative.

Won’t be cheap, though, and not made in Taiwan.

It’s cheaper than iPhone and who cares about where they are made? Are you Korean?

Asus <3

Currently on my 3rd one in 6 years. I destroyed the first when it fell screen-down on rocks (rip), then the second one lasted me almost 3 years until I changed it last month, and it’s still working well as a backup phone/media player.
My wife and I both got the Ares, released I think in August. Mine had a faulty screen and was replaced by Asus in less than one day.
Models released in the last few years allow the user to remove/disable most of the stuff that comes pre installed on the phone, and the Zen UI isn’t bad at all. It costs under 10k with 2k screen, 8gb of ram and 128gb memory (and it also has the microSD slot).

Someone a few posts above asked about local Taiwanese brands.

But, yes, I’m a bit pro buy-local, and there have been enough warnings about Chinese phones.

My HTC 10 has just about kicked the bucket. Lasted a good couple of years and now its time to say goodbye once and for all to HTC.

I wanted to like the HTC U12, but it has too many flaws. You can peel off the back glass panel with your hands! The power and volume virtual buttons are slow to respond and dont work that well. The battery drains fast too. So…no more HTC for me.

Google announced the Pixel 3, and yes it is coming to Taiwan. I am on the wait list. But after doing my homework, I am taking myself off the wait list. My major gripe with the Pixel 3 is its unimpressive battery size and dated look with nothing really new to bring to the table all for a very high premium price.

I am pulling out my pocket book to buy Huawei this time. I am very impressed with the Huawei P20 Pro. Really good stuff. 4,000 Battery that actually lasts 2 days + amazing cameras (the best of 2018 by far) + great design with really nifty gesture features for the fingerprint reader. You can use it to swipe, advance pages, and open / close apps as well as unlocking your phone. The price is not too high either, 23000 for an unlocked phone.

The Mate 20 is going to be announced tomorrow and all the leaks point to it being a beast of a phone. Too big in size for me.

So P20 Pro, take my money!

Some people like to buy local and support the local economy. Yeah, I know this is arguably the case, but still.

Why does this too make you unhappy? man, CALM DOWN. Too much stress.

I don’t know what you guys use the phone for. True, many people like to play games on it, and some use it for super professional uses and shit, but really… do you really need a super powerful and super expensive computer in your pocket? and when will you renew it? does it make sense to spend so much money on it? You can watch porn in some other device.

I want something I can depend on to last an entire day without recharging. I want a great camera. And I want it to be built well enough that it will last a few years. Other than that, everything else is just gimmicks and extra.

I was happy with my Zendfone Lasser something. True, sometimes it was sluggish, and sometimes I had to remove applications, but I’m sure newer versions have higher specs. The pictures were quite good too.

Then something happened. Not sure why but the power button wouldn’t work anymore… not sure if it was a problem provoked by use or nephews.

Who says I’m unhappy?

for iPhone users who want to get better specs, dual SIM, better camera, and software that nearly looks and acts like iOS, can think of Vivo brand from across the strait. Don’t have to relearn op system (settings are set up identical to what iOS looks like) and have tons, tons more functions. gsmarena website has reviews, both written and videos of all kinds of brands. look there first to compare 3 models’ specs on one page.

I’m fairly happy with my cheapo Xiaomi Redmi 3(?). The one that costs 3,999 I think.

Only complaint would be that in some apps folder I saw “suggested apps” which is fuckin’ advertisement. I also noticed that the google keyboard makes suggestions that make me think that what I type is being sent to their servers, which I don’t want. I think I oped this out but it’s still there… well, probably I need to check it again.

Sorry, also the camera of this model is a bit lacking. Better models have better cameras I think.

I need to buy a phone now, but I’m moving to Taiwan in a month. How can I check whether a phone that I buy in Europe works in Taiwan? For instance a Nokia 8?
