Bicycle Racing

Stu and I were discussing professional bike racers recently, which got me reminiscing about Winning magazine that I used to read, which was packed with lots of great racing photos. Haven’t seen that mag in years, so I guess I was just jonesing for some good photos for inspiration.

Here’s a couple of shots of Stu’s buddy, Sean Kelly:

I was a big fan of 5-time Tour de France champ Miguel Indurain.

A lot of Americans liked Greg LeMonde, the first American to win the Tour, but he was a dick.

I saw 5 time Tour winner Bernard Hinault wipe out in San Francisco in the Coors Classic, a great multi-stage, world class, bike race that unfortunately no longer exists.

And of course there’s Lance, the greatest cyclist ever. Amazing guy.

That last one of Lance says it all.

I read Lance’s book “It’s Not About the Bike” recently. A very inspiring read.

Here’s a funny clip about some idiot who lost a race due to his cockiness. . . and lack of coordination.

How do you live down something as stupid as that?

MT - when you gonna head over my way for some mountain rides?

i loved greg lemond… makes great bikes as well, shame his co is now owned by trek

well if we are getting serious about legends - 19 yellow jerseys as i remember … not bad for a young bloke from aus taking it to the euros back in the 70s …
