Big Bikes

No, not the kind with peddles, tiny seats and tight pants.

I’m talking about big motorbikes, 1000ish CC. Any forumosans riding? I’m curious to know how you got started in Taiwan and if there are groups a guy could join?

Many of the big bike shops here do rentals and have their own riding groups that you can join. When I first got my license I went riding with these guys a few times, and they were very friendly and accommodating to a newbie: https://goo.gl/maps/BPCy1us5GkJQ2zMX8

My regular shop in Nangang have a club, though I’ve never gone out with them: https://goo.gl/maps/PeTK9DbY2s5vYNSZ6

And I’ve heard good things about Motor Town: https://goo.gl/maps/TjpDyupD4g33dhT16

You’ll probably also be bombarded with fliers from shops and clubs on test day at whatever riding school you go to for the license (which, if you haven’t done it already, is now ridiculously easy).

Thanks! First step is get the big bike license, but I’m also thinking ahead to what bike I want. I have an HD Roadking stored in the US and really wish I could import it, but from what I’ve heard it’s not realistic. First Twn bike probably smaller, cheaper. Down the road maybe get a couple of used HD’s, get some tools and wrench it myself. Retirement hobby.

What’s your ride?

There are some groups online you might want to check out, https://www.facebook.com/groups/1976761252548460 and https://www.facebook.com/groups/1531755740430105

I myself ride a ducati 899, but i’m looking currently for a second bike, perhaps a triumph.

Keep in mind you will need to budget 5-6k/month for speeding tickets. The speed limits here are ridiculously low and there are cameras everywhere.

Many? I know 1 in Xinzhuang. And 1 more maybe down south.

Please please please tell me any shops that rent big bikes.

I’m on a Yamaha MT-09. It’s my first big bike and I’m still in love with it after a couple years, despite it being kinda batshit crazy. It was also like half the price of other bikes I was looking at, which didn’t hurt.

I linked three in that post! And when I’ve stopped in at random shops around the city from time to time to get something small fixed, they usually have a rental price list and group ride days posted somewhere. I was under the impression it was standard.

There is a big rental place on rosewelt road, basically just between wanlong and gongguan station

Haven’t tried it myself, but I walked passed it a few times and they got some pretty decent bikes

I don’t ride big bikes, but why wouldn’t you get an app that warns you about stationary cameras?

I got that, but I dont have the app running while driving…

Obviously, not looking at it. In the background with audio warning to your ear peace.
