Bill o'reilly let go from Fox News

No interest in the continual sniping responses that often passes for discourse on here, you can get them from a bot after all. See above.

BORING.

What IS interesting is that Facebook has teams of different persuasions that they embed into political campaigns and that they can target ads to individuals at different addresses.

That they can target to different adresses is just another factoid which means they can target very accurately by race and socioeconomic background.

The reporter didn’t ask the right questions. When the guy said he didn’t micro target by race the reporter should have drilled into that. For instance you can target some streets and just omit sending ads to people at certain addresses. Add in other factors I’m sure they can get up to 90 certainty on racial background! (especially if they play around with ads and see the reaction of the user e.g did they reaCt positively or negatively to certain events connected with different racially charged incidents).

Of course Facebook knows your race , likely age, political persuasion, friends and family , likes and dislikes , likely address (sometimes better than you do) even if you don’t input that info on their site directly.

Probably the campaigns cross reference their own databases (such as the RNC database mentioned )to know with a high degree of certainty the targeted Facebook users age , criminal record and if registered as a voter or not currently.

I like the idea that our robot overlords know how “neurotic” we all are. Typing this probably increased my neuroticism score! :grinning:

they clearly ha e the technical knowledge to do so, but my guess is that the Trump administration didn’t want to invest too many resources on a demographic that voted 90/95% for obama, and they instead decided to campaign for demographics where they m8ght have had better numbers. Plenty 9f Hispanics voted for him, for example.

Well of course they wouldn’t bother targeting black voters, what they want to is to efficiently identify their base and get them out to vote! Get them all riled up. Put the fear of God into them about foreigners and socialists and black people and feminists and people who want to take their guns away.

The beauty of targeted ads is you find out what they hate (clicked on this or that or shared this or that ) and then you jam their Facebook with only the stuff that really gets that individuals goat up and reinforces their existing bias. Turn them from an uncommitted individual to a committed voter.

Thats what won them the presidency (because you don’t need to go outside the base to win in many cases).

I don’t think that’s what FB did when working with the GOP. What you described is a basic function of any social media platform, search engine or ad platform. Watch a youtube video by some tard who sees white supremacy everywhere and you’ll get a list of suggested videos along the same line. Spend some time having a laugh on Facebook groups like Occupy Democrats and that kind of content will start to show up more often in your feed. And targeted ads when opening any web page are something we all experience every single day.

The way the article described the operation makes me thing that FB and the Trump organization worked together in order to reach people who are on social media but are unlikely to attend meetings or get well informed about the election campaign, especially those who live in areas that would have required too much money to cover in more traditional ways.

Looks like it was a good strategy.

Thats not what FB does but they show the teams how to target very precisely and they probably ignored that the content and ads were full of lies and fake news as the money rolled in .

Yes, it does. FB has targeted ads and content just like any social platform.

There’s no need to invest time and money promoting the politician X to a demographic that’s already interested in him and often checks content related to him. In a similar way, promoting a candidate to people who overwhelmingly voted for the other party for years would be useless because they’re not likely to change their mind no matter what. Trump and the GOP won by targetting people who were on the fence and/or not much involved in the political debate BUT, thanks to the ever growing use of social media, they were possible to reach out.

Interesting things coming to light about his settlements. 32 million? I know he isn’t proven guilty but I think you would probably need some real leverage on someone to get 32 million.
