How they come in is still a mystery but it is definitely the back balcony. I was in the living room all morning and afternoon and I saw the cat carrying the poor thing in from the back balcony.

I noticed another bird of the same kind -it’s mate?- lingered a while by itself close to the balcony, too.

This is the third time in 2 years the cats have killed this type of bird at my house. First one lasted a year, second one about six months…this one only a few months.

That’s an owl. So sad

An owl? I would expect it to have a more curved beak.

I was thinking it could be one of this:

Their standard quick do a throat dance and walk really fast defense would probably not be the most effective against cats.

yes, not an owl but most likely a bittern.

Yes, that’s the bird i meant. it is also known as one of the bitterns, a tiger bittern.

She’s lucky that the bird hit her only during the beginning stage of the acceleration. Fabio did much worse.
