What’s the point of these funereal birds? I just bought one because that was all they had. I forgot the colour isn’t only skin deep. Eating grey flesh is very unappetising. Is there some kind of rationale behind producing these things? Are they supposed to taste better/be healthier/give you magical powers or something?

Their flesh is supposed to be especially nutritious and have many medicinal qualities.
It’s normally used in soups. I don’t think you want to roast one of these.
Perhaps it would help to think of the flesh as being dark blue?

How do they manage to get the chickens black? The same way that they get yellow into watermelons? And white instead of pink inside guavas?
Jokes aside, it’s always fun to see Taiwanese cooking programs. Every steaming morsel is black, grey or brown. I guess those colors are auspicious for Long Life and Prosperity.
