Black Holes Renamed 'Super High Gravity Locations'

Most obviously speaking truth to power…no doubt…:rainbow:

BRUSSELS, BELGIUM - The International Space Nomenclature Council today adopted the term ‘emplacements de hauts gravité super’ - or ‘super high gravity locations’ - as the official replacement name for black holes. Originally named in reference to the fact that light cannot escape their intense gravity, the term ‘black hole’ was increasingly criticized as being insensitive to African-Americans and African-Europeans.

“We’re glad the council finally took action on this issue.” said Isaiah Herman, Chairman of the National African-American Coalition of People. “The unimaginable destructive power of these super high gravity locations was giving the word ‘black’ a negative connotation throughout the universe.”

Super high gravity locations are the remnants of giant stars that collapse into a substance so dense that it has a gravitational pull that consumes all matter that comes near it. “They’re the bad boys of the cosmos.” says Nokidi Imsure, Professor of Astronomic Anthropology at Howyflyl University. “You would definitely want to cross the street if you saw one coming.”

Early after their discovery, there was little controversy over the former name of super high gravity locations. However in recent years, scientists theorized that most galaxies had massive super high gravity locations at their cores, and would eventually be swallowed up by them. A doomsday overtone began to be associated with the former ‘black holes’ - even a slang term for something unendingly wasteful developed - prompting the insensitivity criticism.

“There was never any intent to be offensive or malicious.” says Imsure, commenting on the original naming of super high gravity locations. “It just seemed to fit at the time. But this name fits well too - it’s definitely a location of super high gravity.”

I always thought it’s a bad name; they’re not black, they give off gamma rays.

But why not just use the other name they already have - singularity ? Why make a new name ?

I like “black hole”… sounds cool.

Yes, I’m sure all of my African brethren are walking about thinking “Why the fuck are Super High Gravity Locations still called Black Holes in this day and age? Its issues like this that keep us oppressed by the man”

I wish I’d got in on the political correctness bandwagon years ago. Good money has been made there.

Yet another thing taken away from the black man by the establishment.

If it’s a super-powerful force we can’t have it be called black, can we?

Seriously, I can see renaming the phenomenon because it isn’t precise, but because of misplaced political correctness? Nothing wrong with using non-offensive terms, but when every term is offensive…

Of course, what’s being overlooked is the strong anti-Disney slant of modern day science. First Pluto gets demoted to being a dwarf planet and now The Black Hole has been retroactively been made non-PC.

who cares what they’re officially called? they still suck.

anyway, i’d like to start a campaign to stop people of Australian Aboriginal or African ethnicity using the term ‘black’ to refer to themselves, or allowing others to call them Black. they are NOT black, the same as i am NOT white. I am generally a mid-cream and light brown colour, except for a few tiny bits that are closer to pinky-purple. (lips and fingernails, folks… what ARE you thinking of).

Black is a good name for something that does not emit light at visible wavelengths, even if it does give off some gamma rays and perhaps xrays near the event horizon, but it’s not a good name for the colour of people. perhaps the names “Dark Brownies” and “Mid Brownies” and “Pale Brownies” could be used. puts a different spin on asking for a beer in newcastle. and politicians could all be called “Gordon Brownies”.

You talk about ‘the man,’ and I find this term out dated, and loaded with sexual prejudice. 9 times out of 10 it’s a WOman who screws my life about. You should have said, “…isues like this that keep us oppressed by the super high person location.”

I’d like to see the sensitized release of
Soundgarden’s Super High Gravity Locations Sun.
