That Speckled Hen was kinda bitter, Cathykins.
Give my love to everyone and a big fat kiss to my boobee!
(Forumosans:
I got a Jeep Wrangler within 24 hours of landing in the US and have had to drive it about 30 miles to go online right now, so you guys won’t be seeing me much as neither home I’ll be living in has ADSL and I have to drive a distance either way to go wireless. But I miss you anyway.
Right now I’m sitting here: malaprops.com/)
The amount of American flags I’ve seen is dizzyingly jingoistic.
Bobwundaye has a new range of beers on offer from the town of Yakima in Washington state, made by a Scot.
Come and enjoy:
Scottish ale, heavily malted, lighter on the hops makes a great change from the Lagunitas. Not better, just different. Real Scottish taste – made me nostalgic.
Like drinking a bar of slightly smoky chocolate. Probably better drunk in the winter, but you can always ask Cathy to turn up the a/c.
That’s right – mandarin-flavoured hefebeer. I haven’t tried it so no comment.
A seasonal pale ale. Unfortunately I can’t recommend this one – bland and almost totally lacking in flavour.
All these beers are very low alcohol – mostly under 5% abv. – but great session beers.[/img]
Had a great time there last night jamming with Dave Chen, Sandman, someone called “Stevie”, and many other people whose names I can’t recall. The space created by removing the loft makes it seem a lot bigger and more comfortable. We even got a lock-in after the police came knocking about 17 times and Cathy decided to just shut the gate. Oh, and I finally met Hexuan.
Should point out that there’s a nice range of ciders at Bob and Dave’s as well; apple, pear and many others. I have one question, though: if the name is “Bobwundye”, which presumably sounds like the Hokkien pronunciation of 沒問題, then why is the Chinese name 復古寶瓶?
Their website appears to be down right now http://www.bobwundaye.com. Bobwundaye is located at No. 26 Lane 38 Chongde St. near the Liuzhangli MRT station. Tel. 2377-1772.
Go to the Liuzhangli 六張黎 MRT station at the corner of Keelung (Jilong) Rd. 基隆路 and Heping East Road 和平東路.
Exiting the MRT station, walk east on Heping East Road about 100 meters or so to the first set of traffic lights. This is Jiaxing St. 嘉興街. Cross Heping East Road and walk north on Jiaxing St. You will see the blue Bobwundaye sign almost immediately. Turn left at the sign. Bobwundaye is in the middle of a row of first floor shops.
Landmarks: There is a Sunny Bank at the corner of Jiaxing St. and Heping East Road. This is the side of Heping you want to end up on. If you’re still confused, please check the map on the back of our card.

A massive round of thanks and applause for Cathy, Katrina, Iris, Paul, Conor, Jez, Zoe, Dave, Will, Tim, the hepcat singing cop with the crocodile skin bootswho channeled Stevie Ray Vaughn, the guy with the pretty snake, the cute baby, and everybody else who helped make Sunday afternoon’s musical barbie at Bobwundaye into an all-day, all evening festival of good food, good music and wonderful craic!
12 pints of Murphy’s, 3 Hoegaartens and still blowin’ the sax. Oops! I be gettin’ too damn old for this shit! Let’s hope there’s another one soon.
Remember this? Well there is – Saturday Dec. 18, to be precise. Kick off is at around 4pm until …
Barbie, good drinks, great craic, friends, music. Come one, come all. Musicalicious types comfortable with playing acoustically especially welcome.

Was in the neighborhood so I stopped in. I got the distinct impression that I was not welcome. I don’t expect much, just, “hello, welcome, what would you like?” Anything but total silence. Especially since there was only one customer. It was about 9pm.
Anyway, I ordered an Abbot’s Ale 'cause I’ve never had one and German sausage because I hadn’t eaten yet. I didn’t care for the ale too much. But not surprisingly, by the time the glass was almost empty it was tasting better. The lady brought some peanuts because the sausage was taking a while and I ordered an Old Speckled Hen. I think this one was better. It was more carbonated. I think she asked me if I was English, but I ignored her. Two can play at that game.
The sausage came and it was fantastic. I’ve never had better in Taiwan. They said some Australian guy makes it for them. For 230NT you get two sausages, some salad, and a few Pringles potato chips. The sausage alone is worth the price.
This place is so out of my neighborhood that I probably won’t be back much. I can find more convenient places to be ignored. But I doubt I can find a better sausage.
