so was going to go for the JRFV today… the wife phones the BOCA just to see what time they are opening etc… then she starts talking to some girl about the JFRV
The girl says that I need to prove the marriage is regsitered in Ireland… which is of course BS
I phone up and get another expert… and explain that this is crap… he says NO… I have to prove that Ireland recognizes marriage that take place outside Ireland
It would be ok if I was from the UK… since he has a letter from the BOCA stating that the UK recognizes marriages that take place in Taiwan
I ask him how to do that ( I was being saracastic) :bluemad: … of course smart ass has no idea
Then he says he will check on this to see do I need to prove anything and will get back tomorrow
Now I am mad :fume:
I am thinking of going down there and ripping the heads of some people in that office
I know and most people know that this requirement is gone since Taiwan has got on the reciprocity wagon on things like this
Still I hate having to deal with individuals in Taiwan that tend to give their own interpretation on this sort of stuff

Actually, the requirement is still that your marriage be registered in your home country. The change they made about 2 years ago, is that if your country has no systme of registration, then proof of this is not necessary.
went down there and sorted it out
It appears that the people who stated about the requirement were new to the job and did not know about “if your country has no system of registration, then proof of this is not necessary”
Its nice to see that the MOFA and BOCA train and ensure that all their staff are familair with all rules and regulations
If you are sure about the regulations, you can just tell the staff to submit the damn documents.
That’s what I did a few weeks ago for JFRV when I was told by counter staff that I was missing a document. I simply said “No I’m not. Everything is there.” When she told me I needed a clean criminal record I told her I didn’t. She disagreed. I said “Fine. Just submit the documents as they are.” She said “OK, but your application will be rejected.” I said “no it won’t.”
It wasn’t.
If you’re sure of the requirements, you don’t need to take any shit from these counter drones – they don’t have the authority to approve or reject. Best to remain polite though, as they DO have the power to “lose” things.
Actually, TNT, it sounds like what you’re describing is incompetent bureaucrats, not assholes. It makes a difference. Dealing with incompetent people who give wrong advice can be frustrating as hell, but it’s no reason to want to rip their heads off. They can’t help it if they’re stupid, incompetent or ill-informed, and you need to just take a deep breath and deal with it. But if they’re assholes – if they’re intentionally trying to screw with you – then that’s a different matter and they should be treated differently.
True it is not their fault but it does piss me off when somebody gives misleading information on this
Thing is if the person on the desk or the phone is misled or misinformed… this does not bode well for other staff either… then you got a lot of people going around the place not knowing their jobs… wait that sounds like a lot of companies here in Taiwan!!
It was not just that… it was the guy’s atttitude on the phone also that got me started… he thought he was right to the point where he was telling me off for being misinformed
its ok I have calmed down now… i do not want blood anymore
Funny how nobody knows whats going on in Taiwan and their own laws.Taiwanese people are the only ones on planet earth who has no idea whats happening in their own country.Funny I read somewhere Taiwanese said they are more clever than foreigners.I think they must be dreaming.HAHAHAHA.Idiots if you ask me
Follow Sandman’s advice; grin and bear it and ask politely to submit your documents anyway. If you’ve been here a while, you’ve probably been jumpping through visa/ARC/JFRV/APRC hoops a lot longer than that clerk behind the counter has been doing his/her job.
