Bollywood,by far the best curry house in taichung

Original Title: bollywood,by far the best curry house in taichung

after trying various different outlets in the quest for the proper curry,i was left desappointed so many times.

last night was very different,i finally stepped in “bollywood”,it had taken me a while because previously the place had a “rasta” theme, quite fine for a bar,but for eatery…no sirrreee

then the place was revamped and rebranded, only little itch was that in small font, bollywood presented itself as “kebabish 2”…
having had a terrible meal at the original kebabish,i wasn’t rushing to check out this new place.

i am now glad i did,the setting is pleasant, traditional indian music is played (which is a thousand time better than the modern, loud, punjabi we are treated with at andrews)the staff knows what they are doing and knowledgeable in what’s cooking, the icing on the cake?..they speak english :noway:

the meal was served before i had put down the menu,it worried me at first, because this is often a sign of pre-cooked rubbish, but i guess the chefs must have been on the old red bull…or something.
the flavour was authentic,fresh,juicy chicken,rice cooked to perfection,and the naan…pure bliss…

i’ll visit again very soon, for i want to make sure it’s consistent before i am willing to bring friends or business there, but if my first time there turns out to be what we’ll get in the future,i’ll definately be back…often

Address?

I have been to Bollywood a number of times, and have never been disatisfied with the food nor the service.

Address! Quick, else I’ll visit a plague of locusts upon all your houses.

If it’s as good as people here reckon, I might have to mosey on down to Taichung in the near future…

Edit: I accidentally posted a PM – something to the effect of “Don’t you Taipei-ers come down here spoiling our Taichung curry house paradises!”

why was my title edited?
why was my title edited?
Because you didn’t answer Sandy’s question quickly and courteously, and he’s the mod.

that would sound funny if that wasn’t the actual reason… :s

Huh? How can that be? I’m the mod but I didn’t edit it, I swear. Nor can I figure out why it was edited – maybe because it smacks of personal opinion or editorializing, I suppose, but then, ALL restaurant reviews are personal opinion.

But seriously, please include the address when you post about restaurants!

c’mon,admit it…you’re a partner in that “andrew’s” venture…

I’m the Saint part.

then you ought to come down and give it a blessing, coz the food certainly ain’t holly
For NT 840.00 I felt like my money was stolen. I was in a wonderful mood when I got there and left actually angry. It takes a lot to make me angry.

Also, do not park your scooter in the front. I hear from my friend that many people get their helmets “borrowed” from there and people will run into your scooter often.

Dablindfrog, you owe me a dinner for two! :p
Blax, I’ve eaten at Bollywood three times and the food has always been great. I guess it’s possible that you caught them on an off night but from what you say it seems more probable that you were having an “off night” and that this coloured your perceptions of the place.

You said you waited 15 minutes before being offered a drink. This has never happened to me there, but even if people were busy and I was waiting a little while, I’d attract somone’s attention and ask for a menu. No big deal.

And, though the scooter thing is nothing to do with the restaurant really. I’ve parked my scooter out front several times with no problems. However, if people are still worried about the possibility of their scooters being run into then there’s always the parking lot behind the big hotel. Of course if you are silly enough to leave a helmet on the handlebars then it may be stolen, wherever you are.

I have to second Sandmans comments. Although your comment about the fish is valid, to be fair Sandman, possibly only the Brits would know not to order anything ‘British’ in a curry house.

Blax fish and chips is often on offer in curry houses in Britain, and is often exactly as you described. That is not to say that: a: you should have been aware of that fact or b: that they had the right to serve you that muck. But I would guess the fish and chips would be bad any night at Bollywood.

BTW, I had fish and chips in a pub in London the other day and the fish was ‘smoked.’ I was appalled and will never order that again. I said nothing in the restaurant but went home and told family and friends.

I think it is very possible that TSC has had 3 excellent meals in Bollywood, and that Blax had a bad dining experience in the same restaurant, and that both are telling the truth.

Conclusion: The Spice Shop in Tienmu, Taipei.
Although why on earth an Indian restaurant is offering fish and chips is beyond me. And why on earth anyone would order fish and chips at an Indian restaurant and expect it to be authentic is equally beyond me!
The place used to be a bar called Rasta and offered some meals such as fish and chips. Then the name changed and they entered into some kind of partnership with or were taken over by one of the Indian restaurants across the road – I’m not sure of the details. (This means, by the way, that there are now four nice Indian restaurants and two nice Thai restaurants within a one minute walk of each other). They added the Indian menu onto the existing one, which is why they still offer things like fish and chips.

I haven’t had really good fish and chips in Taiwan yet. I never went to that chippy in Taipei, and it seems that no-one else can really get it right.

Either stick to the topic or I’ll lock this thread.
