Bombing of Taiwan Exhibition

Quite an interesting (if you like that sort of thing) photo exhibition on this in Chang Rung Christian University Library foyer at the moment. Bit out of the way of course but it may be touring.

Mostly photos taken from US planes on operations, some of them scarily low-level, though they mention Taiwan was also bombed by ROC volunteer airforce (Flying Tigers?) and Russian Volunteer Airforce. Hadn’t heard of the latter.

Captions are mostly in Chinese but there’s an introductory spiel in Chinglish. Seems to be a bit of a political sub-text in that they want recognition and some kind of memorial?

Does seem to be something of a forgotten bit of history. I used to do field trips to Anping (where there are WW2 air-raid shelters) and would ask students which country was doing the bombing. Japan and Germany were the most popular answers.

OK, Taiwanese students, but an American colleage argued the same thing, quite vehemently. :unamused:

sounds great! do you think it is worth a day visit from Kaohsiung.

do you know how long it will go on for?

Whew! From the subject line, I thought a Taiwanese exhibition had been bombed.

Gotcha!

(Subtle tabloid technique AND military history reference there  )

Dunno to both. Depends on how interested you are, and perhaps on whether you read Chinese. Location is easy enough to reach since its on the link line to the Tainan HSR

If I get time I could photograph some of the photographs, as it were, and post them on here. Quality won’t be that great but should do as a taster.

I would also recommend you guys to visit the Taiwan History Museum in Tainan, which is holding an exhibition focused on Second World War Taiwan.
