I might have missed something or being blind but since when are those bookmarks put on the thread pages and what is the thought behind?
Will they save the world, or slow down bandwidth or … I do not get it, but I presume it is another fine service offered by some intelligent mods?

They will not slow down bandwidth - only one factor is proven to slow down bandwidth: more Forumosans using the website at the same time. The rest is simply code - and very simple code indeed.
If you maintain your own bookmarks on those websites, then it probably is a fine service for you
The Forumosa bookmarks were grouped together with them since they server a similar purpose, although they aren’t social
