Breaking in a New Motorcycle

Guys, howdy…
Can anyone explain it to me like I’m a 2 year old how to properly break in a new KTR 150? With an aim for longevity rather than performance? Don’t take the 2 yr old thing literally…

Its controversial, so no. Enough posted argy-bargy on that already, here and elsewhere.

Basically, the choice is between babying it (as probably recomended by your manufacturer), and thrashing it (the “hard”, "motorman"or “mordeth” break in)

Either way, try and avoid “lugging it” (low revs in too high a gear, which I tend to do) and do fairly frequent initial oil changes.

There’s another controversy over whether you should use synthetic or mineral oil, especially during break-in.

Thanks, man…
Think I might go the safe route and break it in softly according to the manual…

The sift break in is a pain in the ass, but worth it for engine longevity.

Treat her like a princess for 500-1000 kms…depending on your patience. I’ve broken in several and usually never make it.
