I was in the bookstore yesterday and saw the most recent Taiwan Review, with an excellent discussion of Prosecutors, by Brian Kennedy. Unfortunately it doesn’t seem to be up on the TR website yet. Also on tap this month is AmCham’s Topics, which has Kennedy on the nation’s judges. Excellent work, Brian!
Michael
PS: And don’t miss this Review article by Kennedy on the death penalty.
Good Morning Michael,
Thanks for the kind words. Those articles are really team efforts. Liz helps out a lot with the translations, my “unnamed sources” (various judges, prosecutors and private attorneys) provide the words and the editors get things smoothed out and the pieces into the magazines.
And I really want to mention, to be intellectually honest about things, the vast majority of things that are said in my various articles about Taiwan’s criminal justice system are in fact not “Brian words” or “Brian thoughts”, but rather are the thinking of various local legal professionals. I appreciate those people taking the time to talk with me about things and in particular talking with me honestly about “what’s up” in the real world of Taiwans criminal justice system.
I should mention too, I really appreciate the professionalism of the two editors who I work with on a regular basis; Don Shapiro at Topics and Laurence Eyton at the Taiwan Review. Both of those folks do an outstanding job with their respective magazines.
So on behalf of the team, thanks for the good words.
Take care,
Brian
p.s. on an utterly unrelated note, did I see somewhere on your blog recently a post about the World Kendo Championships being held here in Taiwan Are you a kendo player/practitioner? (I may have my wires completely crossed, I sometimes forget who said what on which blog, cyberspace is confusing for us older people).
