I am always amused at the various names/references that Britons have for their country such as old blighty. Anyone have more?
Old dart, but that maybe Australian/NZ.
HG
I don’t know if you know but Blighty is old British Army slang and comes from the Hindi word for Britain “Belaiti”
There are a lot of these words in common use in Britain or at least there were when I was a child e.g. chit, dekko, doolali.
i always found them amusing.
I found older people in New Zealand who still referred to Britain as “Home” even though they’d never been there, even more amusing, though it may have been rather tongue in cheek.
Someone from England is Limey or they are from an the the island on the old side of the pond. Being from Nova Scotia you could say I’m a bit of an “Old Boy”
here is my redition of god save(shave) the queen
God shave our gracious queen

You’re off-course with location. I have a fucking amazing CD by a band from Cape Breton, the name of which escapes me now.
But Edinburgh castle esplanade is officially Nova Scotia soil, if you care to know. Its true.
