I was just wondering, are there specific months that would be best for spotting moths in Taiwan?
usually around summer.
I remember visiting a museum and with garden full of butterflies here in Taipei but not sure where it was. Getting old everything was automatically deleted.
Hello,
let me revive this topic:
I will be in Taiwan in the first two weeks of september and I am interested in getting in touch with locals or travellers who are -like me- interested in butterflies and other insects.
If you want to accompany me for a hiking trip, send me a private message to schedule details.
Thank you!
Welcome to the world, Papilio demoleus libanius!
Itās been a while since the orange trees on my balcony attracted āno tail butterfliesā (ē”尾鳳č¶). This morning one come out of its pupae. Was sitting right beside it, but missed the moment when it hatched.
Good enough to eat. In our garden, on fern.
Can anyone help out with an Id?
Mmm, maybe, when it gets bigger. Doesnāt have the yellow outline yet.
Thatās on a fern, though!
almost certainly, that was Callopistria repleta. Thanks.
Then this morning, just around the corner of the house on a log in the wood store, was this guy. Large macromoth, possibly Erebus ephesperis.

Saw one of those on Turtle Island, they are very impressive. If one of those flies straight for me, I will be pooping my pants.
One of the absolute best locations i have found for moths specifically is the aboriginal hostel in Taroko. A great place to stay, awesome food, and an amazing collection of moth species. About now would be a great time to see them.
Can anyone help out with directions/ map/ website? itās been a while for me.
Hello all,
this Lycaenidae was ponding eggs next to a railway station near Taipeh on september 4th 2018.
Can somebody determine it?
Thank you
Iām away from my identification guide unfortunately. Taiwan has a lot of similar species.
Yeah. Lives next door to me.
Thank you!
Hereās a (Taiwan) tiny moth a wouldnāt know the name, only seen one time.
