Does anyone have any suggestions about whether I should buy my Macbook here in Taipei, or if should purchase it online from the US Apple website and have it shipped over? Which one is cheaper? I know the notebook itself is cheaper in America, but maybe with shipping costs, it evens out? Also, is it even possible? I just visited the US Apple site and for shipping address, you have to enter a US state and zipcode. If I bought the “U.S” Macbook, would I have to load Chinese characters onto it myself, or does it come with? And finally, if I buy it here, is it better to go to a dealer, an Apple store, or buy from a website? Do you know of any good dealers or websites (I know there is a thread on this, but the bulk of it was posted in 2002), and would I be able to go back to them if there are any problems? And I hear the Macbook has a lot of problems… maybe I’m crazy for wanting to buy one.
Sorry for all the clueless questions.
Any help is appreciated.
buy a dell for half the price and install osx86
It should be cheaper for you to buy it here in Taipei, plus service is very good, that is if you need any.
Apple USA will not ship to Taiwan or anywhere else for that matter.
There are a few places where you can buy Macbooks here in Taipei, I’ll have to go over the thread to look for it but just make a search for address and you will come up with something, or maybe another poster will know the address.
We have a good Mac community here.
Good luck.
And the os will work in any language you want. I’ve heard rumors about the macbook having problems as well. I would find out when the next version of it comes out with the potential bugs fixed. Your milage may vary.
Buy a dell for half the price and buy it again next year:)
Read this thread first.

And it’s cheaper to buy back home. The advantage of buying here is that they will install any software you want for free (pirated of course). I would hold off until they get an updated model with all the problems fixed. I returned my MacBook and got an Imac instead.
considering all the problems the macbook have, i dont find this a very smart advice…
