Buying a sheep dog for 20K and selling it the next day?

Click here to see the add in Taiwanted.

I’ve heard a lot of stories about people buying animals and trying to sell them later. But after only one day? What? :ponder: Supposedly, the buyer needed one day to realize that she is too busy to care for a dog the size of a pony. :loco:

I feel for the dog but I feel worse for the buyer because it must be very difficult going through life while governed by such insuperable stupidity.

More money than sense, and no tradition here of keeping pets, so little understanding of how much training a puppy requires.
When the family of one of my students (in Korea) bought a puppy, they took it back the next day, complaining because it kept peeing and pooping on the floor. The pet-shop owner had to explain that one had to housetrain a puppy. Maybe this utter cluelessness about pets is the problem in this case - “Ewww, it peed on the floor! We’ll have to get rid of it somehow.”

I did try to reply before the original post in Taiwanted got locked. I guess my response was the same as many: Wow!

A) A dog is not a handbag.

B) An old english sheepdog would have to be about THE THIRD MOST STOOOPID pet in Taiwan. After a polar bear and a giraffe.

Yes, but unfortunately here the poor fellow is. If they give him back to the pet shop for free, the pet shop owner will be that much more inclined to stock sheep dogs, since he’ll get double the price for them.
Before we were allowed to get any pets when I was a child, our parents made us do research about the pros and cons of the different breeds, how to take care of them, and so on. Surely even someone with no knowledge of dog breeds could see that clearly a dog with that much fur is not suited to Taiwan’s climate. Get a tugou - perfectly suited to the climate, and a lot cheaper.

Dogs in taiwan have to be cute. The rest doesnt matter…

Well that one’s not too cute. He’s going to get skin cancer on his nose.

Just looking at the ad again and it’s entirely possible that this is someone who bought the dog or was given it some time ago and is simply trying to make a profit on selling it on. I know that people are not very bright when it comes to choosing animals but an old English sheep dog and only one day! Come on.

i feel for the dog. Unfortunate pawn in some person’s game.

[/quote]Best to start a separate thread in the appropriate forum to discuss such questionable adds, in my opinion. I think the mod in charge was quick to lock this because it was a shit fest waiting to happen. If you want an explanation from the person who posted the add, you can always send a PM with a link to this thread to the poster who posted the add. My OT :2cents:

I locked it. It seems like the ad was posted by the roommate of the person who bought the pet, not the pet owner herself. I doubted that many of you would make the distinction, and would instead heap scorn and derision on someone who posted here instead of seeing the dog go back to a pet store.

Assume the very best intentions of the OP, and it’s easy to see she’s being noble. Assume the worst, and she’s lying about her identity, and her motives. I don’t want Forumosa to be the kind of website where the second option is the default.

To be clear, my comments aren’t directed at the OP herself (mostly  ) but at the person who bought the dog, assuming the OP is posting the truth, of course.

On a side note, does this comprehensive approach to moderation and self moderation apply to jimipresley’s posts? If so, I object! The guy sports an avatar of a porn star for crying out loud!

Admin have made it clear that if someone has an issue with something in the Taiwanted forum, it’s best to start another thread in the relevant forum. Taiwanted is not a discussion forum. Hence, your thread stands, Rob.

Don’t be ridiculous. My avatar depicts me perfectly: a naive, approachable, huggable, lovable cherub.
