Buying a Upscaling DVD player with USB and 5.1 audio support
If you have a PS3, you can use that as a DVD upscaling player.

Just wondering, when you want a DVD player with USB, are you trying to playback files from a flash drive? I’m not aware of many good ones with USB as they tend to be cheap gimmicks.

Good luck on your search and love your videos!
According to the reviews you can hook a portable HD up to the panasonic and watch your whole movie collection from there.

And I’m always downloading English kids shows for my son.

or you can look for one tv with DLNA and see the movies directly from the PC…

Yeah, I think that’s a good choice. In the past I didn’t want to do that because my computer is kinda big to be moving around. But I can just use my wife’s. It has a lot less wires hooked up to it. Much easier to move around.

Simply plugged a Mac mini into my telly. Works fine with wireless internet connection, and wireless mouse and keyboard, and for downloaded stuff. It’s also the back up pute in the house if my main machine, a Macbook, falls over. Plugged in an external hard drive and use that to auto back up everything.

the trick of DLNA is that you don’t need to move the computer, the video is streamed over the network

Any links on how to set up a “DLNA” setup?

DLNA depends mostly on your TV. Normally, if you connect to the network where a DLNA server is present, you will be able to browse and view compatible movies from it. Windows 7 (WMP 12) has a Play to function that allows you even to play the movies from your PC into your TV without bothering to browse them. The deal here is transcoding, as many tv’s will need the movies to be transcoded into AVCHD so they can play them.

If you have a Sony TV and a Sony lappie, you can use the lappie as a media server (there is Sony software for it). If not, PS3mediaserver or twonky are a good option.
