I will not get my things for a month or so but my pc was hit by a virus. I would like to reinstall Win xp pro. I went to Nova in Xinzhu and asked around and nobody even carried it. Is there some place where I can get a copy for cheap? I am really burned up at not having my own disk with me
Is there a particular reason you need XP? If not, how about just upgrading to Win 7?
Guys selling all kinds of software on the cheap off a card table on the sidewalk on bade lu.
Thanks! Yes, two reasons. I have a copy of win 7 but it is upgrade only, so I need to have win xp on the computer already for it to work. Secondly, I have an older P4 notebook that I leave in the office - the infected computer - and I think win xp is a little bit more suitable for that one…plus I have already paid the Microsoft tax 2 times - once for xp and once for 7 - I have two computers…it is enough
I see. IIRC, you can do a total wipe of your infected XP system by booting from the Win 7 upgrade disk. It will find Win XP on the system and then give you option to upgrade the existing OS or to wipe out the entire system. So you just wipe it out. Will that work for you?
That would…but the problem is, my win 7 disk is also intransit. I was thinking that xp would be the cheapest option to locate to take care of me for the new few weeks.
Cheapest option would be Linux. It’s hard to get cheaper than free.
OK, I’ll go now.

Download .iso from torrent site of choice. Burn to disk. Boom.
I’m going to go ahead and ignore the fact that this implies pirating the software because it can be done this way in a legit manner. Simply get a torrent that is not cracked and don’t authenticate it. You’ll get 30 days. When your disk gets here, use that serial to authenticate.
You can also download a legitimate copy of Windows 7 from Microsoft, put it on a USB or DVD and install it without authentication so you can run it for 30 days while you wait for your disks.

He’s already paid for a copy so you could rationalize this by saying it amounts to copying of his authentic bought software which is permissible. A rather broad and permissive interpretation of the law but conscience saving nonetheless.
Thank you for all the advice! I, too am concerned about pirating and issue relating to my question. I still have in my possession dos 6.x disks, windows 3.x disks, win 95, 98, 2000, xp and 7
I am using Mint now to surf the web
