Cable Internetnot connecting PLEASE HELP!

i posted this a week ago, thanks for the suggestions guys, but still no joy.I know at least there’s no proxy settings active, and I tried rundll wizard, but it said “empty” or something(see Internet Connection Problems about 20 postings below

here’s my story again:I recently moved to a new place.Got Cable Internet hooked up to my PC which I bought from a Chinese friend(Celeron 2.0Ghz 512MB RAM,works fine).I use a Harddrive which I brought from South Africa, its got XP Pro (English Version) on it.

For some reason the bloody computer stays offline,I’ve had “specialists” from the cable company in there(their English is limited to Bye bye!),no one can help meit reads the LAN settings perfectly,it reads and displays the IP address settings, but when I click on Internet Explorer it doesn’t connect.
Anyone had this problem? How do I remedy this? Its really strange, cos the landlord connected his laptop and it worked, and I took my computer to a computer store with ADSL and it worked.

I did a network settings diagnostic with the following results.I’m sorry but its greek to me,I’ve never had cable or ADSL before.

    any suggestions/decoding this stuff?Cheers

My immediate suspicion would be this:

  • DefaultIPGateway = 218.34.20.1(Same Subnet) (FAILED)

any idea how to fix it,or what it means?i’m clueless about this stuff

Lets see. Neighbor connected ok. Did he need to enter in login user and password settings? Or he just plugged in?

he just plugged in

Let’s see…

How do these look?

Did you ever get this sorted? I’m having exactly the same problem.
