Calgary Flames! Who'd uv thunk?

4-1 flames game 2.
I’d never of thought it.

Ski

Doh! Was gonna watch that game tonight!?! Oh well, Go Flames!

CK

I am stunned. Did I mention I was there in '89. Actually used to hang out at a place called Honey’s Pizza. It was a regular haunt for the likes of Lanny, Nattress, Vernon and all the rest. In fact, I stumbled home about 4:00 AM that fateful night, and as luck would have it, The Flames all rolled into Honey’s about an hour later and partied the whole day there.

The Calgary Flames are the only team to ever raise Lord Stanley’s Cup in The Montreal Forum. Ever! The following season I was bartending in a club a slapshot away from the Forum and had my little corner of the world all decked out in Flames guff. I was the only fan I ever met in la belle ville.

They, until this year, have not won a playoff series since. I fell off the bandwagon in the mid to late nineties. Is it okay to jump back on without penalty, or must my reputation suffer and thus be labelled as a fair-weather fan?

Of course, I always have the national pride card to play, but I deserve more than that. I was a Flames Fan in Montreal. Doesn’t that count?

What’s the best thing to ever come out of Edmonton?

Highway 2 South.

He can say all he wants when he gets in from the links.

How do you say “play-off hockey” in Edmontonian?

“Four!”

Watch out; someone might start a “Self-Centered Calgarian” thread! :smiling_imp:

CK

You guys are going to jinx them! Watch them lose 4 in a row now.

Yah. The Flames are reading Forumosa. It’s not like I said the “S” word or anything.

I lived in Calgary for the first 13 years of my life…The 89 final was special, but the “Battle of Alberta” that year was fantastic. Who could forget Steve Smith scoring on his own goalie, Grant Fuhr. I can remember being so nervous, I watched part of the last game outside in -30 degree weather looking in the neighbours houise.

I went to a goalie school one summer with Mike Vernon. The dude had “little man” syndrome and was a “Class A” jerk. According to my sisters friend (a national beauty queen who dated him and Joe Niewy??dk, Vernon, who liked to think of himself as a ladiesman, was a “class A” dud in the sack).

Ah…'89: an ominous year for the Habs!

Chewy, you should think about coming out to Shijr on Sunday nights for some Taipei hockey. You too, Stew. We need more bodies.

Chewy,

I know what you mean. He was at a party I was at one night and he left about the same time my bike was stolen. Circumstances were such that there was little doubt as to his culpability.

Every time Steve Smith touched the puck in Calgary after that, everyone in Southern Alberta would yell “SHoooooooooT”. Then he ended his career in a Flames jersey. Bahahahaa.

A bunch of them came into that bar in Montreal that I was working at. I bought them a round. They didn’t tip. That didn’t bode well. Cheapskates.

But go on boys, bring the cup back home.

CK, recovering from elbow surgery right now, but hope to be out soon. I wanna see more rubber than a PatPong Hump Hump girl during German tourist season. :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:

Are you short of a goalie and do goalies play for free?

Credit must be given where credit is due!

Lucky for Stew I’m actually from further south. Lethbridge.

As a long stand rule my favorite team is of course Edmonton. Followed by any Canadian team wit htehe flames at the bottom of the list. Then any American team with the exception of Dallas, Colorado, Nashville (new this year) and Chicogo because they didn’t beat Nashville.

Ski

See some of ya on Thursday Night.

I am about 90 pounds fatter, than I was during my goalie years, but I did goaltend for 9 years. I’d love to goaltend, but I didn’t bring any equipment. Is there a place do obtain cheap goalie equipment and size 12 skates in Taiwan?

Sticks, it’s hit and miss, sometimes one, sometimes three. Goalies do play for free. Check the message board on the site for the list of players. A couple of the guys who do play in nets are only putting on the pads because we’re short. If you want to come out, put your name on the list and write down that you want to play goalie. PM me if you have any trouble.

Chewy, there’s a link on the site for buying/selling equipment. There’s actually a guy who runs a shop close to Chiang Kai Shek Memmorial hall, called the Mono Club, on Aiguo W. Rd that can probably find you anything you need, if he doesn’t have it already. Size 12 skates might take a week or so to find, but I’m sure he can get anything you really want. A lot of the stuff is manufactured here and he’s pretty well connected. His info is on the site as well.

Ski, guess we’ll see you tonight! Game on, boys!
