Camp Taiwan - moving on?

Can i get people’s opinions and advice on starting in Camp Taiwan and moving on to regular jobs? It’s one of the few places that seems interested in hiring directly from abroad, I’m pretty overqualified for it and it doesn’t pay that well but it could be pretty entertaining - and I would hopefully be able to land something while on the ground there.

Otherwise, how long do you think I would expect to wait to get decent work if I flew over into Taipei having only worked as a TA and with my just acquired degree? I’m really open to that option now, especially after seeing how hard it is to get any guarantee from all the scummy recruiters i’ve been talking to “we don’t need a contract, i’ll treat you all the time”

thanks folks.

My sage advice? Don’t agree to anything overseas, come over here and check out the scene yourself. Alot of people whine about jobs drying up, but the truth is if you put in any effort to find a job and hit the streets you will not be jobless for too long. True, jobs are easier to find in some seasons than others. If you already have a grad degree and TA exp. you are ahead of half the “teachers” here. Good luck!

I don’t know anything about Camp Taiwan, but you can make a reasonable bit of cash during the summer working for a guy that posts as Jamesdeanwashere. I’ve had worse jobs, and it’s not a bad way to get your feet wet.

PM me - if Camp Taiwan is run by the group of people I think it is then it could be a great place to work

I think I know who is running Camp Taiwan and I worked under one of them my first two years here and taught me the ins and outs of ECE. If it’s who I think it is (and I am almost positive it is), they will be expecting the best because they are.

I have worked with Tom and Nara the owners for well over a year. They are both decent and open minded people. The camp is north of Taipei and out of the city (so thats why few people have ever been their). We built the camp from scratch. I mean living in tents for 4 months chopping into the jungle. If you are into nature, go. If you want to see something of Taiwan other than Kenting and Taipei then go.

Tom and Nara will be fair.

i think they didn’t like my picture or something

Avoid the recruiters. Come to Tawain. You’ll be able to find a job.

I can honestly say that Tom and Nara are great people. I worked with Nara my first two years in Taiwan and she is a great person to work with. She’s also very tough and has high expectations of those who work under her. That’s why she takes only the best. No offense, I hope, JBaroh. They certainly aren’t recruiters.
