Camping this summer?

V and I just picked up a new tent at Costco - it’s a dome tent that says it sleeps 6, but looks more like a comfortable tent for four. 3500 bucks, 198 cms high, four good size windows, and a canopy across the entrance. It looks pretty cool. It’s 3.5m wide x 3.5m long (4.5 with the canopy) It has a good floor, and there’s a divider if you want to make it a two room tent.

Anyway, we’re staying in Taiwan this summer, so we’ll probably pack up dog and baby and go camping. Maybe the mountains in north/central Taiwan around Neiwan/Jianshi Xiang or maybe Kending - MJB tells me he’s discovered a good campsite there.

MJB, Wookie, Tigerman, Sandman, Hobbes, you guys interested? Anyone else?

This isn’t the tent, but it looks a little like this:

I’d be interested. It was a great time at Neiwan. I’d have to borrow a tent from Mr. He, though. But, I don’t think that would be a problem.

My boy will be leaving for the States in mid-late July… so, anytime prior to that would be good.

Oh, and… everyone takes their own food and cooks for him/herself this time, right?

Yes, food is DIY. This isn’t exactly going to be a planned event - at least not by me. I’m just going camping and thought I’d invite some Forumosan friends…

Oh, btw, you can use our old tent.

Sounds great. And many thanks for the offer to use the old tent.

Sounds fun to me too, MM.

Will have to see how it works out in terms of scheduling and so on, but that Neiwan camping trip was an absolutely great time.

I agree with Tigerman about having it earlier in the summer rather than later, although for me the reason is summer temperatures.

The 2005 camp ground has many gnats, beware of those. I still have the owners cell no, but word has that things there have gone down hill.

I suggest either the south for a long trip, or another camp spot in the area if any are available.

Here’s our tent:

that’s cheating, maoman. you’ve used a half sized model, so the tent looks really big.
