I would say with 99% certainty that if you are eligible for one then you could get one. I’d also guess that it’s one of the operations that are deemed necessary by the NHI unlike boob jobs and would therefore be covered.
I don’t know about the not having NHI bit, it’s not something I’ve encountered
Kidney transplant lines for locals are really long, which is why Taiwan has such state of the art dyalisis programs, unfortunately.
You should look into the International medicine programs at select hospitals, like Taida or Cheng Kung, if you do not have NHI. Prices seem to be very competitive.
Not sure. Basically the kidney transplant register system in Taiwan only serves local people. But if you had NHI, you could go to a medical center and asked the doctor if a qualified foreigner (with NHI) could register a kidney here. This could only be done at a medical center, such as NTUH or Veterans General Hospital.
But even if you could register a kidney without NHI, the operation fee and whatever included will be sky-high.
Then the answer might let you down, I’m afraid. There’s a scoring system that decides whom will be the next recipient. The younger the patient is, the higher the score will be, in addition to the matching situation of HLA types. Besides, it is said that probably this register system is not connected to other nations. So it’s a lengthy waiting torture. That’s why many take the risk of receiving kidneys in China.
