Is it really okay to let something like this go on? Isn’t there some sort of ethical boundary that’s being crossed here? We’re talking about screwing up these children’s future, who are probably already at an economic disadvantaged if they’re being sent to buxibans like this.
One of the Nigerians actually learned English while teaching English at a buxiban in Taipei (I know the school - it’s named for an animal indigenous to Africa). He was there a long time, and when I met him he was actually able to have a normal conversation in English - something his friends could not do. He started at their level, and even admitted that he thought teaching English at a cram school would be a good way for him to improve his speaking and listening skills. And it seems to have worked.
Sandman is correct, but what he fails to mention is that even though a British passport, etc can get you a job, if your accent sounds non native, people are less likely to hire you.
So ask yourself, do you have a near native speaking accent?
Cause in Taiwan, it MATTERS!
:roflmao: I havent laughed so much since ages!
I finally found a English teaching job in a school. However , I m still french and still no passport from english speaking country.
The school asked me if I could maybe get a student visa or marry my girlfriend ( haha )
Seriously , they really want to take me , and just cannot process the working permit.
Now I have to live the country again as it took too much time to apply for a working permit and get a new 2 months visitor visa , that must be extendable / with multiple entry ( knowing that I could stay 3 months without any visa … ) Some website say I should not say I m applying for a job as they might want me to apply directly for a working visa … ( I only have a copy of the application , and receipt they did for the working permit ). Should I tell them I m in a process of applying for a work permit ?
They are also thinking of opening an “official” French class for me ( unofficially ). So they could hire me as french teacher.
Well any advice regarding the visa , or any way to pass that law would be appreciated. I m good at teaching and fluent in English with a nice accent. ( yep not a french one )

You have to live the country to teach English. There’s the problem right there. :roflmao:
