Can anyone identify this little bugger?

Bit me at work today and didn’t survive the encounter.

You killed Bob!

Polistes japonicus (also known as Polistes jokohamae )

How would you pick out the difference?

The Japanese paper wasp is slightly crunchier, and adds a more zesty flavor to medicinal wine.

Well known for bowing gracefully before going in for the kill.

Mainly in the shape of the thorax… the Parapolybia is much narrower than the Polistes species.

Details of head and leg coloration, depth of the counter-color (your choice has brown vs. almost black markings), and antenna are not the same either. This one has paler ends to the antennae, yours are darker all along.

plus your insect would be an unusual insect in Taiwan… not found so far north.

could possibly also be the related Polistes formosanus, but the abdomen coloration seems off for that.
