Can anyone recommend a German film (with English subtitles) for Germanization… err I mean so I can familiarize myself with German.
Wim Wenders’ “Wings Of Desire”
Tom Tykwer’s " Run Lola Run"
Rainer Fassbinder’s “The Marriage Of Maria Braun”
Volker Schlondorff’s “The Tin Drum”
Just a few suggestions for films that are easily procurable.
All Quiet on the Western Front (that was German, wasn’t it?).

I think that Mr Urodacus is referring to the remake by Werner Hertzog, not F.W. Murnau’s landmark original.
Dude, you can’t go wrong with anything by Wim Wenders and Werner Hertzog. Don’t even get me started on my favorite director of all time: Rainer Werner Fassbinder. 
Another great one: Istvan Szabo’s “Mephisto”. Monumental. Ground-breaking.
A tad on the nazi side, but how about Baron Von Munchausen?

Um, i meant the original Nosferatu, but as a joke. I think i stuffed up the line spacing, though, so it wasn’t obvious. I’ll take jimi’s proffered lifeline, though, and second the fassbinder.

But isn’t Baron Von Munchauson a German film? I’ve had a few beers and now I’m getting confused. What do you mean?

tomthorne, perhaps there is a Ger-man film called Baron von Munchausen, but I am referring to the vastly under-rated Terry Gilliam directed monster that is a whale of a tale well-told… and it’s most definitely in English.

There is a German movie called Münchhausen with Hans Albers, but its from 1943 and I doubt it has English subtitles.

I second Das Boat cuz it usually comes with both English and German audio AND German and English (and others) subtitles cuz it’s such an internationally distributed film. Der Untergang is not bad. Wenders and Herzog you can’t go wrong, and watching herzog’s demon actor is always entertaining (Klaus Kinski), but I recall not all his films are German
but otherwise, German cinema is boring. try Danish/Swedish with subtitles in German lol
