Really, it seemed super balanced. Maybe that’s a problem for some.

Voices in the US that demand Taiwan to increase its defense spending seem to get louder:

“And how are we to be expected to think about sending Americans into harm’s way on behalf of an entity that doesn’t seem all that interested in protecting itself?”

Taiwan needs to increase its defense spending to around 10 percent of gross domestic product – about four times what it currently spends – to deter a war with China, U.S. President Donald Trump’s nominee for a top Pentagon post said Tuesday.

Can someone tell them Taiwan has paid for a lotta weapons that haven’t been delivered yet? And even if we buy another lotta now, it won’t be delivered for many years?

Gee, you’d expect them being nicer to such captive market (read this with dripping sarcasm). It is not as we can buy from anyone else…

Lol at the only person who still thinks Trump is ready to fight a war over Taiwan.

Taiwan could try buying from France again.

I don’t think they want to sell to us. :upside_down_face:

Plus annoying US and China at the same time ain’t a hefty goal.

Swap f16s for Rafales… France can part the f16s for Ukraine’s parts need, now US has cut them off.

Would be wise to find new partners, and weapons systems that don’t rely on US.

Why did she have a Taiwan residency in the first place?

She married some dude in Taiwan.

Taiwan’s President Lai Ching-te on Thursday announced plans to restore the island’s military courts in order to counter what he described as China’s “influence campaigns and manipulation.”

…Taiwan’s intelligence agency has said three times as many people were charged with spying for China in 2024 than in 2021; immigration authorities said Wednesday a Chinese resident would be expelled from Taiwan after advocating for unification with Beijing on TikTok

He must be so proud…

What some are saying is she (or other ChiComms) are marrying Taiwanese guys, coming to Taiwan, getting residency, etc., divorcing the guys, and then bringing multiple ChiComm family members over to Taiwan. Whether a grand plan or just coincidences, it’s being brought to light.

Taiwan obviously has a ‘simp’ problem in their male populace they urgently need to address for national security reasons.

I’m not seeing any reputable Chinese-language reporting confirming this rumor in her case. There is one less reputable media (Mirror) reporting that it is not true. Also, she had the equivalent of an ARC. You cannot bring parents over without citizenship (PRC spouses only). There is a quote of 150 parents annually.

Regardless, I have heard several family members and friends repeat this rumor in the past few days. It seems to be very widely believed.

There have been similar rumors for years about Vietnamese spouses. I’m sure it happens, but I think stereotypes and prejudice exaggerate the frequency greatly.

A sexual revolution?!
