Can I keep my ARC even if I'm reassigned outside Taiwan?

My work permit is valid until 2005. However sometime this year, I will be reassigned outside Taiwan. I will still be with the same company.

Question: Does my transfer automatically mean that the company should revoke my work permit?

They quite likely will, and as you (presumably) won’t need it anymore, it shouldn’t be a problem! Don’t know who you work for, but generally a company is issued with a limited number of work visa for foreigners, so if they’re near their quota I’d imagine it’ll be cancelled fairly soon after you leave. If not, I guess you could ask them not to cancel, but wouldn’t that mean you’ll be required to submit tax returns, have medical tests etc…?

Are there any restrictions on how long an ARC-holder can reside outside Taipei? For example, if I took a 4-6 month vacation, will my ARC still be valid when I come back?
