Can somebody clear up something for me? 60-day multiple ent

hey there, i have a 60-day, multiple-entry, extendable visitor visa and i need to clear something up…i am taking a chinese course for extensions past my 60 days, and I know at the 6 month point i have to leave taiwan regardless, but what i want to know is because i have a multiple entry, do i have to go to the visa office, or is it simply a matter of getting it stamped? Also, I heard that chinese school can only offer extensions 4 times per visa…by leaving taiwan, does this allow me to get 4 more extensions after I come back? I want to continue to study, but need to know if have to get a new visa…thanks in advance for any help

Sorry nobody could offer advice. I read your post but didn’t know the answer so I didn’t post. There are a lot of people on forumosa - both newbies and old-timers - who are very helpful. You were just unlucky to fall through the cracks.

Please post what happened regards your visa. It could be useful to others.

Cheers,
Almas “fellow hairy white arse” John.

Just saw your post as well. Had to read it a couple times to figure out exactly what your situation is. Still not sure I’m completely clear.

Your situation is a little exceptional; multiple entry visa used as an extendable to study Chinese; new one for me. Multiple entry visas are technically only granted to people who have business affiliations in the ROC and need to travel here often, not live here. That’s obviously not your case, if you are a student. So, my gut answer would be “no”, because you’re not using the visa for what it was designed for.

The single entry extendable visa is the usual route for students, and yes, you do have to leave every six months.

Interested to find out what happened in your case, because it seems as though you’re having your cake and eating it, too. If so, congratulations!

Good luck,
CK

Regarding your frustration, post a link to the moderators; I’ve noticed a lot of queries in this forum go unanswered. Might be time for them to consider adding a second moderator who will be a little more active in noticing unanswered posts.

Just a thought,

hello, yes i got it cleared up…and my humble apologies to those whom i offended and my sincere thanks to those who posted a response…the scoop is with a multiple-entry, extendable, visitor visa you can have it extended 4 times within a 6 month period, and then by leaving, you can have it extended again a further 4 times and so on ad nauseum…so there you have it…thanks again and hopefully this will help others out who might find themselves in a similar sitch…

It’s a good thing you said that. I was about to say something very rude about you.

So how did you manage to get a multiple entry VISA??? Im desperate for that!!

hey kris, i got the multiple-entry visa at home in canada…apparently, they are willing to give them to us because canada recognizes taiwan as a nation…i haven’t heard of anyone else being able to get them…but, i could be wrong…

I’ve never seen a multiple entry visitor visa.

Where on Earth did you get that?

it was the reason given to me by this lady at the VISA office…don’t know if that’s the real reason, or just one she made up, but it’s true that canadians seem lucky enough to multiple-entry, visitor visa…'cos thats what i’s gots

Hmm…Maybe things have changed stateside recently. In Boston all of us - me, the wife, and 22-year-old son - got 5 year, multiple entry, and extendable visas. The visa-exempt route is the only other one I’ve had. Only reading here did I hear of non-renewable visas. I thought they were odd, not the multi-entry.

Out of Chaos…

You were granted a 5 year multiple entry visa due to your marriage to a Taiwanese national. And no they are not the norm, in fact they were the coveted holy grail when I first arrived…I was lucky enought to be issued one twice. A twice yearly vacation to some exotic Asian locale and 4 trips a year to the cop shop…Doesn’t get much easier. I always felt bad for my Hong-Kong visa run traveling companions, who had to go to the VISA office to plead for re-entry while I went shopping.

Now I’m on a JFRV and hardly ever travel…I kind of miss it.

I’ve never heard of one being issued for the sole purpose of study…You are lucky indeed.

I had a 60-day multiple entry visa when I first came here two years ago…and I wasn’t here on business. Got it at the Atlanta office. Didn’t seem like a big deal to me but it was only good for one year. All I said was that I want to visit Taiwan. All I had to do was leave Taiwan every 60-days and then turn around and come back in.
