Can you buy a car with an IDL?

Last time I stopped in at the car dealership I was told all I needed to buy a car was a driver’s license.

Has anyone bought a car using an authorized international driver’s license?

The license is only required to drive the car on public roads.

I bought my car without showing any license at all.

All you need to buy a car is money. All you need to register a car is a household certificate or ARC with your address.

No-one says you have to personally drive any car you own. That’s what your chauffeur does, silly.

Thanks for the responses guys. I haven’t owned a car in almost 10 years and am really looking forward to it.

In order to clarify and at the risk of sounding quite boring:

You don’t need anything but money to purchase a car

You do need an ARC, or local ID in order to register the vehicle and gain a licence plate.

You can use many international licences or indeed local licences in order to operate the vehicle legally on public roads. See here for details.

Thank you for the clarification. This is exactly the information I was after.

my deep thanks for the one who asked and those who answered, I was thinking about this question but I do not know why I did not ask it. Really, I don’t know what I will do without this website. God bless you all.
