Can you stand the heat in Taiwan?

I’m one of those people that prefer cold to hot, especially the super humid, unbearable heat like in Taiwan. Last time I went to Taiwan, I’ll never forget how, when the doors to the airport opened as I stepped out, this intense heat wave hit my face like a punch. Can you stand the weather in TW, especially during the summer periods?

Your body learns to adjust…during the hotter days, you can run the A/C…it is just part of living in Taiwan…

I’m dreading it. The cold weather back home makes me feel alive.

The heat is terrible in the summer.

Wusses. I have an AC in my apartment and I never need to use it.

I can’t stand summers here. i suffer. I sweat the minute I wake up and I constantly feel sticky and slimy and dirty. I thought that exercising regularly would help but it doesn’t and I still find myself showering 3 times a day. I would rather be in cold weather than paralyzing humidity.

I almost never use A/C. That way, when it’s REALLY hot, it feels REALLY good to use it when going to sleep.

 You guys think Taiwan is hot??? Try Columbia, SC or Atlanta, GA in July/August.

Can’t stand the heat at all, that’s why I love the winters here. My perfect life would be to live in Taiwan in winter, in Europe in summer.

Luckily, I now live up high in an apartment with windows in front and at the back. If I open both sides, I get wind sweeping through, so I hardly ever have to switch on the AC during the day.
I only use the airco at night because I have to close the windows to keep the noise of the nearby road out.

Still, can’t complain about the weather in Taiwan, at least we have a winter. Singapore or Indonesia would be hell for me.

I like Taiwan’s heat and what’s more, you’re being prepared for the Global Warming of the future.

Taiwan doesn’t get that hot IMO. Anyway, you get used to it. I haven’t bothered to buy an AC yet … going on 12 years now.

sure beats dreary rainy cold portland…

Sun…I need Sun!

I grew up in Florida mostly, so coming to Taiwan was not much of an adjustment. I far prefer the heat to the drizzly humid freezing that is winter here.

I’m from Louisiana and Texas… you say Taiwan is hot?

I hate winter with a passion. I’ve been waiting for this for a long time. I’d rather sweat than shiver.

Well, there’s hot then there’s the humid, sweaty hot like in tropical places like TW. The former I can stand more (ie: Las Vegas). I’ll never forget the time when I stepped out of the airport in Taipei for the first time, how the heat just hit my face.

Do you guys tend to stay home and in malls where it’s airconditioned most of the time during the summer?

Me too and I was coming from the Southern Hemisphere’s winter.

I tend to stay in during noons/afternoons when the sun is at its hottest…if I want to go out for a walk during this time, I usually do it in a department store, underground mall, etc. where i am covered and there is A/C…during the evenings, when it is slightly cooler, I like to go to the nightmarkets and walk outside on Zhongxiao East Road…I usually do a loop starting out from Sogo and walk east along Zhongxiao East Road, and then come back around along Renai Road where it is quieter…

No, I go out. If like me you don’t turn on or don’t even install an AC, you get acclimated to the heat better, and then you don’t feel the need to stay home or in places with air. If it gets too hot, turn a fan on or take a cool shower. If you’re out, take a bottle of water with you, and if it’s too hot, trickle some water on your arms and splash a bit on your face and neck. The heat here is quite tolerable that way. I pour a bit on my shirt if I’m on a motorcycle and it’s 34-36 out; it evaporates as you go, keeping you cool.

Why go outside anyway? It’s not like it’s all that nice anyway. Just step into your car in your air-conditioned car park, drive in air-conditioned luxury to work, park in the office car park and sit in the air-conditioned office. Later, pop out to the air-conditioned pub for a pint of air-conditioned lager.

It’s good practice for when we all will have to live on the moon.

Oh no…this week was awful! Fakk, I felt some salty liquid substance on my forehead yesterday as we were bike riding and, my lover tells me it’s called “sweat.”

Tis the season to throw the contents of my intimates drawer in the freezer. That works. Try it.
