"Canada’s parliament has voted to extend the army’s mission in Afghanistan by two years to 2011, but only if NATO sends reinforcements and equipment.
MPs voted 198-77 to keep the 2,500 troops in the southern province of Kandahar if Canada’s allies send 1,000 more soldiers, drones and helicopters.
Otherwise, Canada would withdraw next year at the end of its current mandate. "

Where will said reinforcements & equipment come from?
But they’ve brought so many good things to Afghanistan already. Where would the Afghans be without such fine Canadian equipment such as hockey and Tim Hortons? I hope they leave all their good equipment (like hockey equipment and donut machines ) behind when they leave.

For recreation, most of the national contingents have a special tent set up for their members to relax in, and the Canadians also just built themselves a large permanent facility known as Canada House.
These recreation centres usually provide free coffee, Internet services, big-screen TVs and a tremendous library of current DVDs. Salsa and tango lessons are available at the base gymnasium on Tuesday and Thursday nights, and for the more sports-minded, there are always a variety of tournaments being scheduled.
One of the most popular sports is ball hockey. Games are played at the custom-built, floodlit outdoor arena (complete with boards, glass and spectator stands) built beside the boardwalk. It is safe to say that in the battle against boredom, the bane of any routine garrison duty such as life in camp Kandahar, the military is sparing no expense.
I say give dem Canucks the equipment they need! How will the Afghans survive without the Afghanistanley Cup?

They need ICE, dammit! Tell NATO send some ICE!

I hope you are not banking on Germany there, right? As Bismarck said: “Not worth a single German bone …”
Nevertheless: A much more sensible a policy as it seems. First check what is in the cards then rush for “glory, democrazy and greeted with flowers” … or not. Let’s see if the Canadian government sticks to its new found sense of feasiblity or somehow will be suckered again into playing sidekick savior though.
Due time to disengage from this pointless endeavor. No problem at all with the Canadians being the first either.
