绿共? Canadian egg farmer arrested for selling eggs outside quota system

The term “绿共” (Green Communist) isn’t just something coined by the KMT; around the world, there are countries that practice hardcore socialism in food production — Canada being a surprising example. In many ways, it feels more like old Mainland, where the government regulated how much food could be produced and set mandatory prices. Naturally, egg prices are now rising. Some farmers who tried to sell outside the quota system have even been arrested. It reminds me a lot of how things were on the Mainland before the reforms. Sadly, I think Canada is moving further away from a market-driven economy.

In a broader sense, systems like Canada’s food quota and supply management programs seem rooted in Marxist ideas. The argument is familiar: like Karl Marx, Ottawa sees small-scale farmers as victims of “American capitalists.” My understanding is that Marx viewed the petite bourgeoisie as victims of capitalism, but also believed their political instincts often slowed down progress toward proletarian revolution.

Are you surprised that Canada practices elements of a socialist economic system?

It’s weird the Albertans would also act like British columbians when they whine about BC being too socialist. But that’s not the real point, is it?

Quick note, this is a Taiwan forum, not a Chinese forum. 绿共 makes no sense here  kind of like how “Vert communiste” makes no sense on a Japanese forum. Different countries, different written language.

…no?

No country is fully capitalist.
