Canadian Father, Taiwanese Mother seeking advice on getting a Canadian passport for baby

Hey guys

My wife and I are having a baby in Taiwan, however I am not really sure on the steps involved to get our child the Canadian Passport.

Q. What should you have done differently to speed it up?
Q. How long did the hole process take?
Q. If you did it again, what would you do differently?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated on top of these questions.

Thank you

Best to set aside time to visit the Canadian Trade Office and ask them directly. You may have luck on getting definitive answers via email/phone call.
Presumably, you have checked the website for the steps involved? You need to apply for a Canadian citizenship certificate and then use that document when applying for the passport.

You should also get a Taiwanese passport for your baby too to facilitate re-entry to Taiwan and for definitive photographic ID proof of your baby’s Chinese name.

Thank you very much, really appreciate your reply. By chance do you know how long both will take for the entire process? We will be in a bit of a rush, my wife and I both with in Shanghai. She will be there from the 6 month date, and I will be flying back on weekends. However am just hoping that it isn’t a crazy long process.

Bun is in the oven. do you have any clue on how long things take?

It’ll take a lot longer if you use that 10-year-old address

Try:

6F, No. 1 SongZhi Road, Xinyi District, Taipei 11047, Taiwan

Pretty much bugger all you can do 'til it’s born
Make sure you get the English COB from the hospital, it might cost a little extra.

Taiwanese passport, you should be able to get within a month.
Read the Canadian Trade Office website. You’re looking at about a year before the passport is in your hands.
Fetuses don’t have enough personhood to apply for a citizenship certificate.

Got it, Thanks. Ya, a few people said just get the Taiwanese certs and passport and then sort the rest out in China. Thanks again for your replies on NYE.

Don’t get me started on NYE.
