Ummmmmmmmmmm.

Born in Quebec, such a long, long time ago means I do not have a Birth Certificate. (Nor do I have a lab report either smart-ass wannabes.)

I need some proof of citizenship to renew my passport.

I have with me my SIN, my passport, my degree, my soon to be expired BC d/l, an alumni card. What’s an expat to do?

Any advice, even such that merely brings a smile to my :astonished: 'd face is most welcome.

Will I be force squeezed back into Canada until I can get a new passport? Maybe it’s time for a vacation that I really don’t want to take.

Say it ain’t so Joe, please, say it ain’t so.

don’t just sit and stew, stew. use all your current docs to get that essential QC birth certificate, and then head over to the “consulate” to renew. Check the govt. of Quebec website for procedure, fees, contacts, etc…As for the renewal, it’s a real pain in the derriere btw. Guess you’re supposed to be so much in debt that you can’t afford to leave the country or something. The motherland’s very backwards when it comes to making things easy (forget easy, how about RATIONAL) for ex-pats. Passport’s only good for 5 years at a time, you need a guarantor (like my current passport and boatload of documents aren’t good enough losers!), and if you want to travel around a lot, pay the extra 1000NT and get 48 pages. You’ll thank yourself later as the less you have to deal with these…uhhh, people, the better.

good luck

Right you were Just In Time. In fact, I can order a BC on line. Easy-peezy. Thanks man.

What did you eventually do for a guarantor?

The guarantor thing is a bit of a scam, if you ask me. You can have anyone in a high ranking position, ie: lawyer, notary public, etc. sign for you, or cough up NT$1400 and have one of the Canadian Trade Office officials sign for you. They’re laughing all the way to the bank. :unamused:

Good luck,
CK

as for the guarantor…I just paid them their “non-guarantor fee,” filled out a form which supplied them with a bunch of extra info…and they laughed all the way to the bank, then they gave me my passport anyway…

Conversely, ike citizen k says, if you know any doctors lawyers or indian chiefs here, maybe you can ask them (pay them) to say “I’m rich and I know this guy”.

in any case, you shouldn’t have to leave.

Can we ever really escape the tax-sapping Maple Tree?

Sounds a legal thread to me, but what sort ? :s

edit: silly typo fixed

Now it does. Sort away.
