Hey everyone. I’m looking for any support groups for cancer patients.
My boyfriend was diagnosed with Stage 4 Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma last year in September. He has been through 5 chemo sessions & he didn’t have any trace of the cancer in his body. But just this month the cancer came back (in his right hip again).
We also just found a small tumor in the left Occipital lobe (affects vision) when we went to the ER (when his vision & speech were impaired). Another MRI will reveal more.
I am fortunate to have close friends around me who offer around the clock support. But I’m hoping to find a support group for him, as this is not easy to go through and I can only offer so much support. Please let me know if there’s anything or anyone who has been holding sessions in Taipei. I found one that seems to cater to colon cancer, but I will try tomorrow anyway.
Just learned that a friend’s cousin is a foreign resident in Taiwan and has multiple myeloma. They are looking for patient groups or patient advocacy groups that he (the cousin) can join. My friend said, “…right now we are thinking he will benefit from patient support groups that [have] patient to patient talk sessions.” Although his cancer is incurable, it is considered to be highly treatable and when I asked the AI model about it, it explained that such patients can indeed live full and active lives with the cancer.
I am assuming the cousin may speak some Mandarin or Hokkien because they are ethnically Chinese, but I am sure an English speaking group and resources would be even more welcomed.
Although myeloma is not curable, it is not always considered terminal (something that cannot be cured and is likely to lead to someone’s death). There are a number of effective treatments for myeloma patients, which can control the cancer and prolong life. It’s difficult, if not impossible, to predict how long someone will live with myeloma, but many patients do respond to treatment and live with myeloma for a long time. The life expectancy of someone with myeloma has improved hugely and we have more treatment options available than ever before.
