Hi everyone, I just arrived in Taipei and I’m looking for a desktop computer with preinstalled Windows XP operating system -media edition. It’s the one that has preinstalled hardware and software for watching TV and recording TV shows and watching DVDs and such.
It’s a preinstalled software that comes with new systems and you can’t just go out and buy that software.
I looked in the big computer stores and they don’t sell systems like that. Anyone seen it?
I should have bought a system in Canada but I thought Taiwan would have it. Darn!
Do you mean that I can download Windows XP media? I don’t get it. All the systems that I’ve seen has it preconfigured in their software and has the hardware to execute it.
I’m looking for a whole computer system. That has Windows XP media preinstalled. Not just the software. Unless I have no choice but to buy/get it separately.
Would you mind clarifing?
As far as I know, WinXP Media Center Edition is only available preinstalled from companies that sell it with hardware. There’s probably an illegal copy or ten available via Bittorrent or other pirate boards.
Edit: well, a quick Google search proved me wrong; you can get copies on the gray market, but you still have to build a computer with the necessary hardware to use the features that you want.
Good luck; if you want a prebuilt computer, though, you’re probably best off getting a friend to bring you one from Canada next time you know someone who is coming here with some spare carrying capacity.
If you like, you can give me a ring and I’ll see what I can do for you.
Either that or you’ll have to be more specific as to what it is that you need.
Are you looking to buy a computer?(if so I build’em)
Are you looking to buy the install disks for said OS?(if so, I sell’em)
Keep in mind that as MaPo said, you’ll also need a TV card( or some form of converter/ device to feed the cable/sattelite signal into your computer) These usually come with their own TV software packages.
You can also try the new(er) internet TV that Seednet has on offer with one of it’s highspeed services.
Besides that, third party software is usually more fun to play with than the stuff that’s built into windows.
